Their Punching Bag Became The Storm novel Chapter 70

Chapter 70 Ryan’s a Tiny Puppy?

Ryan wasn’t weak in skills, but his body was fragile.

Now that he was sick, he looked even weaker.

His cheeks were flushed pink. Whitney saw a pale gray tinge on his lips.

Clearly, he wasn’t as steady inside as he looked outside.

Whitney glanced at her hand. Ryan was still holding it tight.

She leaned down and pressed her ear against his chest.

The moment the first heartbeat reached her ear, her face dropped.

It was far stranger than she had imagined.

On the surface, it felt perfectly strong and steady, like a healthy person’s heartbeat.

But after a few more seconds, she heard the chaos beneath that regular surface, galloping, then muffled, skipping, surging, impossible to trace by ear alone.

Even the most experienced cardiologists of the Medical Association would be fooled by those first few seconds of normal rhythm.

She thought, ‘No wonder Ryan said even Davis couldn’t do anything about his condition.’

Whitney narrowed her eyes, gaze unreadable as she met Ryan’s hazy eyes.

He showed no curiosity about what she’d found about his condition.

He stared at her blankly, not blinking once.

Ryan had been through so much hope and disappointment with his health, probably.

Whitney said bluntly, “Your heartbeat is weird, speeding up and slowing down for no reason.”

His lashes flickered, and his gaze wavered a little.

Clearly, he wasn’t as unbothered as he acted.

Whitney went on, “If this abnormal rhythm continues for a long time, your organs will slowly fail and degenerate, until they stop working entirely.

“You must have felt it, right?”

Ryan’s eyes flickered, a ripple of emotion stirring beneath his cold, calm gaze.

She continued, “You’ve stuck by me this whole time just to get my help.

“I don’t mind you, so… once we’re off the island, I’ll grab my tools and check you over fully.

“If it’s not too much trouble, I’ll give treating you a shot.”

Her tone was laid-back, no grand promises, but it still felt totally trustworthy.

Ryan’s eyes shimmered, the emotion in them growing brighter.

His fingers tightened just a little around Whitney’s hand.

Even without a word, Whitney could tell he was thanking her.

“No need to thank me. Just call it payback,” Whitney said, silently wishing he’d let go of her hand already.

Her palm was slick with sweat from his grip, but seeing how weak Ryan looked, she bit her tongue.

Ryan’s thin lips tugged into a faint smile.

Pushing his luck, he scooted a little closer to Whitney.

Whitney sat on the bed’s edge, and when he leaned in, his warmth washed over her.

Whitney tensed to pull away. But then Ryan spoke, voice hoarse and weak, “I feel terrible…”

Whitney froze.

“You smell really good,” Ryan mumbled, half to himself. “It’s calming.”

Whitney just stared, speechless.

Seriously, am I in his debt or something?’ she grumbled to herself.

Her mind was reeling, but her body stayed perfectly still.

She let Ryan push his luck and rest his head on her lap.

Does this guy even know he’s a human furnace?’ She glared at him like she wanted to burn a hole through him. ‘Am V spoiling him way too much?’

As Whitney glared, Ryan, who’d looked relaxed with his eyes shut, suddenly snapped them open.

Whitney didn’t even have time to fix her expression.

‘Crap, their relationship is gonna get exposed.

‘I should’ve checked in first before bringing the crew over.’

Darian was left totally speechless.

The cameraman was just as frozen, staring in disbelief.

The room was dead silent for a while.

The camera just kept rolling, lingering on Whitney and Ryan cuddled up on the bed. Whitney was always a light sleeper. If anyone got close, she’d snap awake right away. Darian made quite a commotion coming in.

She frowned a little, clearly annoyed as she opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was a big, black camera lens pointed straight at her.

Then she saw Darian and the cameraman, both standing there completely stunned.

Whitney blinked, then remembered. “Oh, you came to film Ryan because he’s sick, right? He’s out cold.”

As she spoke, she glanced down at Ryan, his head still on her lap, and scooted up a bit toward the headboard.

“Alright, go ahead and film,” she said, completely unfazed.

Whitney looked totally calm, not panicked at all, and completely oblivious to how cozy she and Ryan looked together.

She gave his cheek a gentle pinch and went on, “He always seems so cool and aloof, but when he’s asleep, he’s actually pretty adorable.”

After that, she glanced up at the camera. “Look, doesn’t he look like a little puppy?”

Darian was left completely speechless, too stunned to say a word.

The cameraman was equally dumbfounded, unable to utter a sound.

Comments flooded the stream.

The viewers thought, ‘Puppy? Are you kidding me?

‘What would Ryan do if he heard this?’
