Chapter 94 Let Her Face the Consequences
Chapter 94 Let Her Face the Consequences
Emily was caught up in her daydreams, her grip on Chase’s arm tightening as she got more and more excited. Her grip was getting a bit too strong.
Chase could actually feel the pain in his arm. He frowned and shot a sideways look at his precious little sister.
But what he saw in her eyes was excitement bubbling up, and a sharp, ambitious gleam. It was a look that was completely different from her usual self. Chase felt a sudden tension in his chest. But it lasted only a split second.
Emily turned her gaze away, her expression back to its usual gentle softness, her eyes sparkling like ripples on a spring lake It almost made Chase wonder if he’d imagined the whole thing. Chase felt unsettled.
To him, Emily had always been like a little fairy untouched by the world. Sure, she had her own little quirks, but at her core, she was always good. That was one of the reasons he adored Emily as his little sister.
But now, the emotion he’d glimpsed in her eyes totally flipped his understanding of her upside down. For some reason it felt like something had slammed into his heart. He felt a tight, uneasy pressure in his chest.
“Chase?” Emily noticed the strange look in his eyes, her voice softening as she called out to him. Her hand, which had been gripping his arm, now landed softly on his cheek. “What’s wrong?”
Chase felt the gentle warmth of her hand on his face. He froze for a few seconds, staring intently at Emily’s expression. He paused for a few more seconds. After a moment, he shook his head, his voice a little hoarse. “It’s nothing.”
Maybe he was imagining things. Maybe it was his anger at Whitney. He’d expected to see that twisted look on her face, and somehow ended up seeing it on Emily instead. Yeah, that had to be it.
Chase kept telling himself that over and over, trying to convince himself it was true. But deep down, he couldn’t shake off that weird feeling creeping up inside him.
Emily looked calm on the outside, but inside, she was a mess of nerves. She’d gotten so caught up in her excitement that she’d totally missed how Chase was feeling.
At the same time, she couldn’t help but complain inwardly, ‘Why did Chase suddenly shoot me that look? If he had seen my expression just now… my reputation would be totally wrecked.‘
Especially with Chase staring at her like that, Emily’s heart was pounding in her throat. She forced herself to stay calm and squeezed Chase’s hand. When he didn’t pull away, she felt a bit relieved.
“Chase, don’t be mad at Whitney,” Emily said, lowering her voice and deliberately steering the conversation away. “She’s close with them, so it’s only natural she’d want to invite them over for dinner.”
She smiled, leaned in close to Chase’s ear, and whispered, “Since Whitney already brought it up and we’re all friends, you shouldn’t let her look bad.
“When we get back to the Anderson residence, let’s ask Mom for permission so Whitney can host her friends for dinner.” They were unusually close. As Emily spoke, her warm breath tickled Chase’s ear. It made Chase feel a bit awkward, and he pulled Emily away a little. He didn’t feel like Emily was trying to flirt with him or anything..
All those doubts had faded away. ‘See, Emily really is so kind and generous, Chase thought to himself. ‘After Whitney has bullied her so much, she’s still looking out for Whitney. But Whitney is an ungrateful jerk. She never appreciated anything Emily did for her.”
Chase let out a cold laugh. “Don’t get involved in this. The Anderson residence is not hers. If she dares to invite people over like it’s nothing, let her deal with it herself and face the consequences of trying to act all high and mighty!”
After the way she treated him on the show. And now she wanted to invite those people over to the Anderson residence for dinner?
If Whitney had been trying to please him and help him out on the show like she used to, maybe he would’ve considered asking his parents to let her have her way.
But now, he was itching to really put Whitney in her place, to make her realize that nobody in the Anderson family was someone she could push around or threaten. She should go back to her old self and behave.
Emily let out a quiet sigh of relief, secretly pleased, and murmured a few more words to try to convince Chase. But when she saw he wouldn’t budge, she let out a long, wistful sigh and gave up.
The way they were acting was definitely drawing attention. Though everyone was used to seeing these two siblings always all over each other, it still felt a little awkward to see them being so intimate up close. People averted their gaze. Meanwhile, on the other side. Whitney glanced at Elian and Nora and said, “If you ever want to visit Prestige Manor, call me.”
Chapter 94 Let Her Face the Consequences
Nora’s eyes went wide. “Prestige Manor? Whitney, you actually live in Prestige Manor?”
Whitney nodded.
“Oh my god. Whitney, you’re actually a hidden millionaire,” Nora squealed, wrapping herself around Whitney’s arm, her sweet face bursting with excitement. “Oh my god! I’m clinging to a real rich girl now.”
Prestige Manor was the most luxurious villa district in Roynfort. A single villa there costs at least tens of millions of dollars. But crucially, getting into Prestige Manor wasn’t only about having money. If one didn’t have serious influence and status, one’s money meant nothing.
Anyone who lived in Prestige Manor was basically Roynfort royalty. These were the movers and shakers, the top of the social food chain. Living there was the ultimate badge of elite status.
Honestly, with the Anderson family’s current standing in Roynfort, they couldn’t get a toe in the door at Prestige Manor, let alone actually live there. And Whitney actually lived in Prestige Manor. Who wouldn’t be excited and shocked by this news? Everyone crowded around Whitney, bombarding her with questions. Did she really live in Prestige Manor, and could they actually get a glimpse of the place?
“You’re lying!” A sharp voice suddenly cut through the chatter. It was Emily. Everyone jumped and whipped their heads around to stare at her.
Emily realized she’d slipped up, her face shifting a bit. She quickly softened her voice and tried to look calm. “I–I’m sorry… know I shouldn’t interfere, but…” She bit her lip. “But Whitney, you really shouldn’t mislead your friends like this.”
Her eyes grew a little misty, and she tried to keep her real feelings hidden as she continued softly, “I know you don’t want to look bad in front of your friends, but… a place like Prestige Manor…
“If you give them hope and then they find out you weren’t telling the truth, what will you do? Whitney, it’s important to be honest.”
Emily acted as if she were earnestly trying to help Whitney, putting on a concerned face as if she had only Whitney’s best interests at heart.
Then, to cover up her earlier outburst, she jumped in to smooth things over for Whitney, apologizing to Nora and the others. “Sorry, I’m apologizing for Whitney. She really didn’t mean to mislead you.”
