Thorns Grow After Betrayal (Celeste and Chester) novel Chapter 346

Raymond had a long dream.

In it, he was sick, just like before, and his mother was worried about him, just like before, taking care of him and never leaving his bedside.

But the moment Raymond opened his eyes, he saw nothing but an empty room.

A look of disappointment crossed his face.

His mother still hadn't forgotten what happened back then.

What could he possibly do to make her forgive him?

It was Saturday, so Celestine didn't go into the office.

Raymond got out of bed himself and used the toiletries Celestine had given him the day before to get ready.

Maybe if he had a better attitude later, his mom wouldn't be so quick to send him away.

Raymond thought to himself, a toothbrush sticking out of his mouth.

He waited all morning, but the door to Celestine's bedroom remained tightly shut.

He felt both nervous and afraid.

In the end, he was defeated by his own stomach, which rumbled loudly from hunger.

Lately, to make himself look more like a homeless child who hadn't eaten in a long time, he had been eating only one meal a day.

But even so, he still craved food desperately.

His stomach would automatically start growling whenever it was mealtime.

Raymond gently knocked on Celestine's door, feeling a little puzzled.

His mother always used to wake up at six. It was almost ten now, and she still wasn't awake.

He waited for a moment, but there was no sound from inside.

He started to get anxious.

Raymond pushed the door open and tiptoed inside.

The curtains were half-drawn, letting in some light, so the room wasn't completely dark.

The person on the bed was quiet, still sleeping.

Raymond walked to the bedside, leaned over, and called out softly, "Mom, I'm hungry."

But Celestine's eyes remained shut, and she showed no reaction.

Raymond frowned.

Had he been here?

Just as Celestine was about to get out of bed, her phone suddenly rang.

She picked it up and saw the caller ID was Flossie, so she answered.

"What's wrong, Flossie?"

"Celly, are you okay? We've been trying to call you, but we couldn't get through."

On the other end of the line, Flossie's voice was anxious.

Celestine glanced at her missed calls. There were quite a few from her colleagues, and also from Yolande.

"I have a fever. I was sleeping so soundly I didn't hear it. I'm sorry."

"Oh my god! Is it serious, Celly? Have you been to the hospital? I'll come see you!"

Flossie's voice grew even more frantic.

"I'm fine, the fever's already gone down." Celestine sat up, smiling as she took the towel off her head. "What's so urgent that you called so many times?"

Flossie sighed. "Mr. Kelsey wants us to start a crunch schedule this week, alternating between five and six-day workweeks. We have an urgent project to rush, and there's a part we can't figure out, so we were trying to reach you. It's nothing, really. I told them you were sick and that Monday would be fine."
