Thorns Grow After Betrayal (Celeste and Chester) novel Chapter 369

"Celestine, you're back!"

Cynthia beamed up at her.

Seeing her cheerful face always put Celestine in a good mood.

"I am. Have you been a good girl today? Raymond didn't bother you, did he?"

Cynthia giggled, her eyes darting unnaturally toward the kitchen.

A sense of dread washed over Celestine. "He didn't go wreck the kitchen again, did he?"

"Not entirely," Cynthia said mischievously, shaking her head.

Celestine was confused.

It wasn't until she hurried to the kitchen doorway that she understood what "not entirely" meant.

There, in the kitchen, two figures, one large and one small, were busy cooking at the stove.

It was Gideon and Raymond.

Celestine's jaw dropped.

Raymond was one thing… but Gideon had joined in too?

She could also faintly smell something burning but couldn't immediately pinpoint the source.

"You two…"

The pair heard the noise from the doorway.

Raymond shouted, "Mom, get out of here! The cooking fumes are bad for your skin! Just go sit down and wait to eat!"

"That's right. I'm watching him, so everything will be fine," Gideon said, an apron tied around his waist as he calmly tossed some already blackened greens in a pan.

Celestine found it hard not to be skeptical.

When their dishes were served, Cynthia immediately claimed she was full from snacks and scurried away.

"No taste."

Gideon and Raymond, the big one and the small one, said in unison.

Then, they glanced at each other with mutual disdain.

"Mom, you have to try this! It's my carrot and beef stir-fry! It's definitely cooked this time!"

"Tsk. You don't even know whether to blanch the beef or stir-fry it, and you have the nerve to promote it."

"You're one to talk! At least when my mom makes tomato soup, she doesn't add sugar!"
