Stepping into the hushed, velvet-lined hallway of the club, Julian pressed the phone to his ear. "What did you just say? Repeat it."
"I said I've managed to acquire her finalized itinerary," Caleb repeated, his voice tight with anxiety on the other end of the line. "Next Wednesday, they are scheduled to attend the Global Bio-Innovation Summit right here in New York." Caleb was walking on eggshells, terrified of triggering one of Julian's infamous, explosive rages over a misplaced word.
In truth, Caleb had already secured the official guest list and knew exactly who Merit's elusive VP was: Willow Horgan. But, utterly baffled by Julian's wildly volatile obsession with his estranged wife, Caleb lacked the nerve to drop that bomb over the phone. Playing it safe, he kept his language strictly professional and completely gender-neutral, just as Julian had.
"Verify the exact panel times and location," Julian commanded, his eyes gleaming with predatory anticipation. "And wipe my schedule completely clean for next Wednesday. I will be attending that summit."
"Understood, sir. Consider it done."
When Wednesday arrived, Julian slid into the back of his sleek, chauffeured sedan, heading straight for the Manhattan Convention Center.
Just before he left the estate, Vivienne Sinclair had intercepted him in the foyer, fishing for details about his sudden corporate outing. When Julian casually offered to let her tag along to the summit, she had aggressively declined. The very thought of facing that ruthless Merit executive who had humiliated her and shredded her project proposals made Vivienne's blood boil. There was no way she was willingly walking into the same room as that woman.
As a result, Julian and Caleb were the only passengers in the spacious backseat.
"Hand me the finalized guest list," Julian demanded. He wanted to scan the roster for useful industry contacts. More importantly, since he was mere hours away from finally confronting this phantom VP face-to-face, he figured it was time to learn their actual name.
