Her mind immediately flashed back to her run-in with Julian at the summit that morning. The man was like a bad penny, turning up everywhere she went. Just thinking about him made her skin crawl. She couldn't take it anymore—she needed to check in with Jade Yates about the progress of her divorce.
After clocking out, Willow called Jade, carefully ensuring first that the case wasn't interfering with her friend's new job at Sterling & Faircrest Law Group.
Jade had only been focused on two things lately: prepping for her new role at the firm and handling Willow's divorce. Unfortunately, there hadn't been much movement on the latter. Jade hadn't anticipated just how shameless Julian could be.
She didn't sugarcoat the situation for Willow. "Julian's legal team submitted their response. They explicitly stated that he refuses the divorce, claiming your marriage isn't irreparably broken and that reconciliation is still possible. He insists he's willing to work on things. They even provided so-called evidence and formally agreed to court-mandated mediation."
Willow wasn't particularly shocked. Knowing exactly what kind of degenerate he was, she didn't have a strong reaction to his manipulative tactics. Whether it meant spinning lies or forging evidence, Julian always had a trick up his tailored sleeve.
She was only worried about Jade. "Does this make the case significantly harder? Will this drag you down?"
"Not at all, and it's not even that difficult to counter. It just means the process will drag out longer. If he can submit evidence, so can we. His entire defense hinges on the claim that the marriage is salvageable. You think tearing that argument to shreds will be hard?"
"I don't care how long it takes," Willow said with absolute resolve. "As long as I can finally be divorced from him, I'll wait out the clock."
"Good," Jade reassured her. "Then you can relax. I'll handle all the procedural filings and gather the evidence. But I have to warn you—based on the way he's playing this, the actual hearings are going to be vicious. He's going to drag this through the mud. Are you prepared for that?"
"There's nothing he can do that I can't handle." Willow gave a faint, cynical smile, appreciating Jade's concern but feeling completely unfazed. "I've already survived his most disgusting, bottom-feeding behavior. This is nothing. Plus, this fight is actually for a good cause—I'm fighting for my freedom."
"That's a relief to hear. Don't worry, I'm going to win this case for you."
