Having successfully sidelined Clarence, Vivienne could finally turn her full attention to the crisis with Leo and his team.
Over the past few days, the HR representative had approached her multiple times, reiterating that there was no way to block the resignations and strongly advising her to escalate the situation to Julian. A mass exodus of an entire department was unprecedented; Julian Sinclair was going to demand answers eventually.
But Vivienne absolutely refused. She understood the gravity of the situation, but her primary concern was insulating herself from the fallout and keeping her image pristine in Julian's eyes. The fact remained: Leo's team was leaving. Even with Julian's blatant favoritism, he would still launch an inquiry.
Her only play was to stall for time, hoping to resolve the mutiny before Julian caught wind of it.
Using a routine project update as an excuse, she called Leo again. It didn't take long for the conversation to pivot back to their impending departure.
She started with her usual condescending reprimands, but when Leo remained entirely unfazed, she forcefully pivoted to a more diplomatic approach. "I was informed that your team is resigning due to excessive workload. If that's truly the issue, I'm willing to reassess the project scope. After all, everyone has different limits. If the team is reaching burnout, it is my responsibility as a leader to reallocate resources."
Even while offering an olive branch, she still sounded like a royal decreeing a pardon to peasants.
Hearing this sudden shift in tone, Leo found it utterly laughable. "Who told you that? We've brought this issue up to you countless times in the past. It's funny how you completely ignored us when we complained, but suddenly you believe it because you heard it through the grapevine?"
