He had no intention of apologizing to Vivienne. He was getting exhausted by all of this. "You know the situation the company is in right now. Aside from their unit, we have absolutely no one else who understands gene editing."
Vivienne chafed at his words, but a knot of worry tightened in her chest. She realized Julian placed an incredibly high value on Leo's team. If he found out they were planning a mass exodus, he would absolutely blame her.
She needed to start doing damage control immediately. "They aren't that special. If you ask me, they're just riding Sinclair Group's coattails. With our platform and resources, anyone could succeed. If they left us, they'd be nothing. We could easily replace them and get the exact same results."
Noticing her escalating temper, Julian couldn't be bothered to argue. He cut straight to the point: "Do you have people ready to step in?"
"Not right this second," Vivienne pouted. "But just because I don't have them right now doesn't mean I won't. If we need them, I can arrange it immediately. I made a lot of connections when I was studying abroad. They're still in the industry, and it would only take one phone call to bring them over."
Julian didn't care enough to unpack the bluff behind her words. "Whatever the case may be, I'm just warning you. Think it over carefully."
Realizing this was his polite way of dismissing her, Vivienne didn't linger. She was dealing with enough messes right now and didn't have the energy to argue with him. More importantly, she was starting to realize that simply acting sweet and pitiful wasn't enough to keep a hold on Julian anymore. She needed to prove her actual worth to earn his respect.
After Vivienne left, Julian tried to get back to work, but he found it impossible to focus. Every single thing happening around him lately seemed tethered to Willow. She had severely derailed his peace of mind, and he knew he had to confront her face-to-face to clear the air.
