Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 328

Hearing her say that set Silas's mind somewhat at ease, and he stopped trying to intervene. Soon, Beatrice joined the conversation, clearly hitting it off with Willow just as well, and they chatted happily.

Silas remained standing close by, prompting Jocelyn to shoo him away. "Why are you hovering over us while we talk to Willow? You rarely come home. Go spend some time with your dad and grandpa."

Silas glanced at the two men sitting on the far sofa, sipping tea and reading the newspaper, and flatly refused. "No need. They don't require my company."

"Then go find something else to do," Jocelyn insisted, clearly wanting him out of the way so they could gossip in peace.

"I don't have anything else to do."

Seeing his stubbornness, Jocelyn cut straight to the chase. "What, are you worried about leaving her alone with your own mother and grandmother? We're not going to eat her. Run along."

Silas didn't react, but Willow felt a sudden wave of awkwardness. She murmured softly to him, "Maybe you should go take care of your own things."

Silas didn't budge. He looked at her closely. "Are you sure you'll be okay by yourself?"

"I think so?" Willow looked at him, puzzled. "Isn't this your house? Didn't you bring me here? What exactly are you worried about?"

Silas was in a bind. He couldn't exactly tell Willow he was terrified Jocelyn would drop a bombshell question that Willow would be too polite to dodge. All he could do was instruct her, "If they ask anything you don't want to answer, just politely decline."

With that final warning, he reluctantly walked away.
