Wrapped in his jacket, Willow walked quietly beside him.
They hadn't gone far when Timmy, a young boy selling flowers, bounded up to them. "Sir, buy a bouquet for your girlfriend."
Willow offered the boy a gentle smile and explained that they weren't dating, so they wouldn't be buying any flowers tonight.
Timmy was incredibly polite. Hearing her explanation, he simply apologized and turned to walk away with his basket.
Watching his small figure retreat, Willow felt a sudden pang of regret. Had she been too serious? He was just a kid trying to make a few dollars. Buying a bouquet wouldn't have been a big deal. Why did she feel the need to over-explain?
Sensing her internal conflict, Silas asked her to wait for a second. He waved Timmy back over. Instead of taking a bouquet, he pulled a thick stack of cash from his wallet and handed it to the boy. "I'll take all the flowers. Go on home."
Timmy looked overwhelmed by the generous amount, but he stood his ground. "Sir, I really appreciate you buying them, but if you've paid for the flowers, I can't just take them with me."
Amused by his earnest principles, Silas asked, "What do you suggest, then?"
Timmy's eyes lit up. "How about this? I'll pass these out for free to all the couples here, as a way of spreading good luck for you. That way, I keep my promise, and you don't lose out."
Silas was impressed by the kid's quick thinking and honesty. "Deal. Do it your way."
"You got it! I'm on it." Timmy flashed a bright, gap-toothed smile. Before dashing off, he looked up at Silas and added, "By the way, I can tell you're completely crazy about that beautiful lady. I hope you win her over soon. But just a heads-up, sometimes fate requires a little initiative. Good luck."
