Silas definitely had his reasons, and he certainly didn't make a habit of losing money. But this situation was unique. His motivation had absolutely nothing to do with financial gain or corporate strategy; it was entirely based on Willow.
He knew all about her recent struggles at Merit Biotech. He had ordered Arthur Vance to run a discreet background check on her time there, discovering that Leo and the team weren't just her subordinates—they were her loyal friends. Naturally, he wanted to do something to support her.
That was what he meant by not making a losing investment. As long as he could give her what she wanted and see her smile, no amount of money could be considered a loss.
They chatted for a little while longer before Leo, who had taken time off to be there, needed to head back to the office. After expressing his deep gratitude to Silas a few more times, he excused himself.
Willow and Silas didn't linger either. They caught a ride back to the hotel to finish packing, planning to fly back to New York City that afternoon.
On the way, Willow was still reeling from the shock. The compensation package was simply too extravagant. Now that Leo was gone, she felt comfortable addressing it directly. "Why didn't you tell me about their salaries?"
"I wanted to surprise you. What, you don't like surprises? I'll make sure to consult you beforehand next time," Silas replied smoothly.
"That's not what I meant," Willow hurried to clarify. "You're the boss. You can do whatever you want without running it by me. I'm just worried that offering such insane terms isn't strictly a business decision."
She didn't want him making choices based on personal feelings, and she certainly didn't want those feelings clouding his judgment.
"Then what do you think my decision was based on?" Silas countered directly.
