Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 369

The feeling of being in love was wonderful, but the reality was mostly just a sour, suffocating ache. Her emotions weren't her own anymore; they were completely controlled by someone else. When that dragged on for long enough, a person started to lose themselves. Jade hated that feeling. She hated that he had the power to make her forget who she was.

That was why she had called him the most annoying man alive.

But the truth was, she was completely in love with him.

When Jade remained silent, Hugo assumed he was pushing too hard. He softened his tone. "You don't need to stress. You don't have to give me an answer right now. Take some time to think it over. Whenever you're ready to talk, my door is open."

"I don't need time to think," Jade countered, rejecting the olive branch. No amount of time was going to change the answer. It wasn't about needing time; it was about the fact that the truth was completely unspeakable.

"Honestly, I don't have any misunderstandings about you, and you've never done anything to offend me," she finally managed to say.

"Then why the hostility?" Hugo asked.

She obviously couldn't tell him the real reason. It would terrify him, or worse, make him think she only took the job to hit on him, getting her fired on the spot.

Searching for an out, her eyes landed on his somewhat serious expression, and she decided to go with a half-truth. "Because you look really intimidating. I just get nervous around you."
