"Where exactly is the apartment?" Willow asked.
Silas paused for a fraction of a second. "I have quite a few properties. I don't remember the exact details of this one. Arthur Vance handles my real estate portfolio. Let me give him a call."
"Of course, go ahead," Willow said, stepping back to give him space.
Silas pulled out his phone and walked toward the hallway, putting some distance between them.
Willow found it slightly odd. In the past, he had never hesitated to take calls in front of her. Even during their business trip to Seattle, he had conducted a board meeting with her sitting right there in the room. Why the sudden need for privacy?
She quickly rationalized it. Real estate details were private, financial matters. It made perfect sense that he wouldn't want to broadcast them.
The reality, however, was entirely different.
The moment the call connected, Silas fired off Willow's exact list of requirements. "Can you find a property that matches this within a half-hour radius of Merit Biotech?"
He had lied to Willow. He owned plenty of luxury real estate in New York, but none that perfectly matched her highly specific needs.
Arthur Vance was caught off guard by the sudden demand, but as the ultimate executive assistant, he didn't skip a beat. "Please give me a moment to verify, Mr. Thorne."
Ten minutes later, Arthur called back. "Sir, I've located a property that fits perfectly. However, the owner is only looking to sell, not rent."
"Buy it," Silas ordered without hesitation.
"There is one complication. Because of the rushed timeline, the seller is demanding three times the market value."
