Willow ignored him, keeping her eyes lowered as she meticulously applied the cream, making sure to cover the surrounding skin as well.
Silas gazed at her delicate profile, then down at his hand resting securely in hers. The minor sting of the burn had long vanished, replaced by a warm, tingling sensation that spread all the way to his chest.
When she finally finished, Silas suddenly wrapped his fingers lightly around her wrist. His voice was slightly hoarse, carrying a trace of anticipation he hadn't even realized was there. "Are you really this worried about me?"
"Of course I am," Willow said, still checking to make sure she hadn't missed a spot. "You got hurt making this meal. Technically speaking, you got hurt because of me. Why wouldn't I be worried?"
She sighed. "Besides, you've lived a privileged life since you were a kid. Forget being burned, you've probably barely stepped foot in a kitchen. If your parents saw this, they'd be way more upset than I am."
Listening to her earnest logic, Silas wanted to laugh, but the overwhelming feeling was pure happiness. She really did care about him.
"If a little burn gets me this kind of treatment, I'd say it's completely worth it."
"Don't say that," Willow immediately chided him, looking up with a frown. "Nothing is more important than your health."
Seeing her distressed expression, Silas quickly surrendered. "Alright, alright. You're right. I'll listen to you."
Despite the massive spread, Willow didn't eat much. Once they finished, she prepared to head to the office. Worried that walking in together might spark office gossip, she suggested she leave first and he follow a bit later.
Silas wasn't thrilled about the idea, but for her sake, he agreed. He silently promised himself that this arrangement was only temporary. It wouldn't stay like this forever.
