Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 408

Having ruthlessly boxed up her emotions, Willow arrived at the office the next morning projecting absolute, unshakable energy. Today was dedicated to onboarding Leo, and she couldn't afford to be off her game.

When she walked in, Leo was already there. After exchanging warm greetings, she asked how he had slept. Leo beamed, telling her it couldn't have been better. Thanks to the quiet neighborhood she had chosen, he hadn't heard a single siren and had slept like a rock until sunrise.

A brief pang of envy hit Willow, but she masked it with a bright smile. "That's great. A good night's sleep makes all the difference."

She personally escorted him to the People & Culture Department to finalize his paperwork, then gave him a comprehensive tour of the facilities. Once everything was sorted, they arrived at his new workspace.

Leo's desk was strategically placed just outside her office, separated only by a sleek glass partition. If he needed anything, he was just a few steps away. She had also reserved the adjacent cubicles for the rest of the Seattle team, ensuring they could slot right in when they arrived.

Even though Leo practically begged to start grinding on actual projects immediately, Willow firmly handed him a stack of internal documentation instead. She wanted him to familiarize himself with Merit Biotech's corporate structure and give him a brief grace period to adjust to the new environment.

Leo, fiercely loyal, didn't argue. Whatever Willow commanded, he executed.

Thanks to the distraction of getting her friend settled, Willow's mood lightened considerably throughout the day. The dark cloud that had hovered over her all week finally lifted. Arthur Vance, naturally, noticed the shift immediately.

That evening, during his daily briefing with Silas, Arthur eagerly reported the good news. He genuinely thought the update would put his boss at ease. Instead, the moment the words left his mouth, the silence on the other end of the line dropped to sub-zero temperatures.

"Mr. Thorne? Are you still there?" Arthur ventured cautiously.
