Seeing that Silas was wavering, Willow quickly pressed her advantage. "Yes, I told you about him. He is incredibly sweet; you will definitely like him when you meet him. He has had such a hard life, dealing with this illness. He has been different from everyone else since the day he was born. Please, just let me stay two more days. Okay?"
Silas frowned. He did not care about any of that. Whether the kid was sweet or tragic meant absolutely nothing to him.
His mind was entirely consumed by the deadly dangers she had faced the day before. His only desire was to drag her away from this perilous place immediately; he had zero mental bandwidth for a random child.
Silas pressed his lips together, fully intending to refuse. But as he looked down, he met Willow's gaze.
She was looking up at him with wide, glassy eyes, filled with a pitiful, pleading vulnerability. There was no stubborn demanding, just a quiet, gentle, and utterly sincere hope that he would say yes.
It was a look he simply could not refuse.
He could not bring himself to do it.
The standoff lasted less than three seconds before he finally caved, a hint of helpless compromise in his tone. "Just this once. Two days is my absolute limit."
Willow's eyes immediately curved into bright crescents, sparkling with delight. She nodded eagerly. "Okay! Thank you! Two days is all I need. I promise I will not ask for a single minute more, and we will leave right after."
Silas was entirely at her mercy. "But I have conditions. First, you must undergo a complete physical examination. You can only stay if the doctor explicitly clears you. Second, I am staying here for these two days, and we leave together when you are done."
Willow had no objections to the first condition, but the second one made her pause. "If you stay here for two days, what about all your meetings?"
She knew exactly how demanding his schedule was. Back at the Sinclair Group, his meetings ran back-to-back all day long.
