Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 498

After fighting for her life for two torturous days, Vivienne finally found a crack in the rocks that led out of the cavern.

She clawed her way through the narrow fissure, dragging her battered body into the open air. The moment her hands hit the wild grass, her strength completely vanished, and she collapsed onto the dirt.

The blinding sunlight hit her filthy, bruised face, forcing her eyes shut. A second later, a wild, hysterical laugh burst from her lungs, echoing eerily through the empty woods. Her twisted expression made her look absolutely unhinged. The laughter quickly morphed into violent sobbing, like an absolute lunatic.

Every second of the past two days had been pure agony, a brutal dismantling of her ego and her hopes.

On her first night in the cave, huddled against the freezing stone, she had been terrified but completely convinced that Julian would come for her. She was the sister he grew up with, the mother of his child. Even if he didn't care about her, he would do it for Toby. She believed he was probably already tearing up the roads to find her. But he never came. Dawn broke, and she was still alone in the dark.

So, she started making excuses for him. Maybe the drive was too long, maybe a meeting delayed him, but he was definitely coming. And maybe, just maybe, he was already on his way.

But by the second day, she sat with bloodshot eyes, pressing her ear to the rock, listening for footsteps from sunrise to sunset. When night fell again, the woods fell dead silent, and still, no one came.

It was then that Vivienne accepted the bitter truth. Julian wasn't coming. Even if he did, he wouldn't turn the town upside down the second she went missing, the way Silas Thorne had done for Willow.

The blatant difference in how they were treated stung, but she refused to accept defeat.
