"Willow?" Julian's voice dropped, thick with skepticism. "Why would she hurt you?"
Vivienne's mind raced, quickly weaving her narrative. "You know she's always hated me. On top of that, the Sinclair Group was crushing her during this project. She couldn't handle losing, so she resorted to dirty, underhanded tactics to take me out."
She forced a few more tears to spill over her cheeks. "I didn't know she was this vicious. Stealing the project was one thing, but trying to kill me? If I wasn't so lucky, Julian, I'd be dead in those woods."
She buried her face in his chest, sobbing hysterically.
Julian found the crying grating on his nerves. More importantly, he didn't buy her story for a second.
He knew Willow was out here for the same project, but he highly doubted she was capable of orchestrating a kidnapping. Plus, Sinclair Group had Mr. Smith backing them, and Vivienne had constantly bragged about their flawless progress. Now she was suddenly claiming they were losing and Willow tried to murder her?
It made no sense.
Julian's jaw tightened, his tone growing sharp. "I highly doubt Willow has the capability to pull something like this off. Tell me what really happened."
Hearing him defend her, Vivienne sneered internally. She had banked on him questioning it; it gave her the perfect opening.
A flash of malicious calculation crossed her eyes, quickly masked by profound hurt. "Of course she couldn't do it alone. But what if she had help?"
Julian's expression darkened instantly.
Seizing the moment, Vivienne dropped her trump card. "You know exactly how close Willow is with Arthur Vance. And who is Arthur? He's Silas Thorne's most trusted, personal right-hand man. If he wanted to make someone disappear to help her, it would be a piece of cake."
