Julian stared at her, utterly mesmerized, unable to tear his eyes away. A suffocating wave of possessiveness surged through him. The mere thought of this vibrant, fiery woman being held in another man's arms—belonging to someone else—made him sick to his stomach. He couldn't accept it.
Driven by impulse, he reached out and grabbed her arm, his tone laced with arrogant condescension. "It's not too late to turn back. I can overlook everything that's happened, and you can still be the rightful Mrs. Sinclair. I'll even arrange a solid position for you. It's infinitely better than following around that older man."
His delusion was so absurd it was almost comical. "Keep dreaming. Let go of me."
Julian refused to release his grip and took another step into her personal space.
Without a second thought, Willow grabbed a glass of water from the adjacent table and threw it directly into his face. Shocked, Julian finally let go.
"If you have this much energy, save it for our second court hearing."
Julian wiped the water from his face, a dark, venomous look swirling in his eyes. He spoke in a menacing whisper. "You're so desperate to cut ties with me, but do you really think divorce will make your life a fairy tale? Take a guess—if Arthur Vance found out about your messy past, do you think he'd still want you?"
Willow didn't give a damn about his threat. To her, it was pure nonsense; Arthur Vance had absolutely nothing to do with any of this. But the mention of her past inevitably made her think of Silas.
Even though nothing was officially happening between them, he was still the first person who came to mind whenever her baggage was brought up.
Not wanting to waste another second on Julian, she opened the door and walked out. Down the corridor, she spotted a tall, imposing silhouette.
It was Silas, standing at the perfect distance away.
Not too far—close enough to protect her the moment she needed him. But not too close, maintaining a respectful boundary so she never felt crowded or pressured.
