Silence settled over the office as Jayden finished speaking.
Julian lowered his gaze, lost in thought. The heavy doubts that had been gnawing at him began to dissipate.
He reasoned it out carefully. Jayden Chase had no personal ties to Vivienne. Their interactions were strictly professional. The researcher had no motive to deliberately cover for her, and certainly no reason to lie to the CEO of Sinclair Group on her behalf.
It seemed he had simply overthought things. He had misunderstood Vivienne.
With that realization, the tight lines around Julian's eyes finally smoothed out. He waved a hand dismissively. "I understand. Thank you for making the trip. You can head back now."
"Right away, Mr. Sinclair," Jayden answered smoothly.
He offered a deferential nod, maintaining his perfectly humble facade as he turned and exited the office.
But the moment the door clicked shut behind him, every trace of that polite smile vanished. The mask of submission ripped away, replaced by a chilling glare of pure, greedy malice. He lowered his eyes, his lips curling into a ruthless, calculating smirk. His gaze gleamed with the triumph of a successful scheme.
He strolled leisurely toward the elevators, leaned against the cold wall, and pulled out his phone, expertly dialing Vivienne's number.
At that moment, Vivienne was lying in her hospital bed, consumed by frustration and despair. Her current mess was unresolved, and she had no clear path forward. She felt like an ant on a hot skillet.
When her phone rang abruptly and she saw Jayden's name flash on the screen, her irritation flared. Annoyed, she instantly rejected the call.
She wasn't in the mood to deal with anyone, let alone play nice with this snake.
