Silas hadn't expected a gift at all. The situation had already escalated far beyond his expectations; the truth was, any lingering annoyance had vanished the moment Willow served him the soup.
He reached out and took the box, his voice trembling slightly. "What is this?"
"It's a night light I bought a while ago. The light is super soft, not glaring at all. It's perfect for leaving on overnight or when you need to get up. It's very soothing, ideal for bedtime."
Willow looked a bit sheepish. "I know I should have gotten you a new, much better gift, but there wasn't enough time. I had to make do with this. I hope you don't mind."
"Of course I don't," Silas replied instantly. He was too thrilled to even consider minding. Honestly, he had never expected her to give him a gift in the first place, and the fact that it was something so personal made him even happier.
He gripped the box tightly, half afraid she might change her mind and ask for it back.
He thought to himself that this was enough.
Silas's trivial bout of displeasure was completely gone. His little test on Willow had yielded the exact answer he wanted.
She definitely cared about him. She cared about his feelings and his thoughts, and that was all that mattered. As for why she cared or how long it would last, Silas didn't want to overthink it right now.
They had plenty of time. He could afford to wait, to slowly prove his devotion, and gently coax her until he was the only man in her heart.
Pushing aside his racing thoughts, he looked up at her gentle features, ready to tell her everything was fine.
