Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 549

The very second that thought popped into her head, Vivienne almost couldn't stop herself from laughing out loud.

It was absolutely absurd.

He was the man in charge of Merit Biotech, standing at the absolute peak of wealth and status, holding unimaginable power in the palm of his hand. What kind of woman couldn't he have? Why on earth would someone of his monumental stature resort to the tactics of commoners—hiding his feelings and nursing a secret crush?

Was he just stupid, or just terribly repressed?

But her amusement was painfully short-lived. The smile barely touched the corners of her lips before it completely died, refusing to reach her eyes. She couldn't laugh anymore, because she had suddenly realized the underlying truth.

For an untouchable man like Silas to willingly hide his edge, quietly waiting in the wings, never uttering a word of his desires, and willingly maintaining a secret crush... there could only be one reason. He wasn't just playing around. He genuinely loved Willow.

It was clearly a love so profound, so intensely deep, that he was too careful to even risk startling her.

This realization felt like a bucket of ice water being dumped over Vivienne's head, instantly freezing whatever fleeting good mood she had managed to scrape together.

Looking at Willow standing before her, still looking aloof and clearly entirely oblivious to everything, a tidal wave of crushing bitterness and jealousy rose in Vivienne's chest.

She scoffed and continued, "I highly recommend that before you get any big ideas, you take a good hard look at your own status. What is his status, and what is yours? He's the man who holds the reins of Merit Biotech, a titan standing at the very top of the pyramid. And you? You're just another completely ordinary employee working for him, someone who was literally thrown out like trash by Sinclair Group just a few months ago. You don't honestly believe that just because you work at Merit now, something might actually happen between the two of you, do you?"

Vivienne gained momentum the more she spoke. "I'm just giving you a friendly warning. The most valuable trait a person can have is knowing their place. Keep your head down and do your job. Stop daydreaming and clinging to these unrealistic fantasies, or you'll just end up with absolutely nothing, making a total joke of yourself."

But no matter what she said, Willow maintained an attitude of complete indifference, treating her as if she didn't even exist. Vivienne eventually ran out of tactics, forced to grit her teeth and spit out one last venomous curse. "Wipe that arrogant look off your face. Do you really think latching onto Silas makes you someone special? You're nothing but cheap goods. Even after everything you did to push me down, haven't I managed to climb right back to the top? Men like him will help you today, and help someone else tomorrow. When he inevitably gets bored of you, you'll be the one crying."

"And let me tell you the truth. I am currently researching the absolute latest in gene-editing technology. You heard my speech on stage earlier. It won't be long before I completely destroy you, ensuring you never have a place in New York City ever again."
