Jayden Chase lounged casually against the headboard, his bare chest exposed to the cool air. He held a half-smoked cigarette between his fingers, his voice raspy and careless. "What's the rush? These things take time. You stole the show at the summit, and the whole industry acknowledges your talent now. Isn't that enough progress?"
"How is this enough?" Vivienne's tone was icy. She didn't spare him a single pleasant look. "Besides, I don't have the luxury of wasting time on him. This needs to be wrapped up immediately."
She shot Jayden a sharp glare, her irritation flaring. "And from now on, unless it's an emergency, don't come looking for me. We shouldn't be communicating this much."
The tension in the room thickened instantly.
Jayden's fingers stalled on his cigarette, his lazy smile slowly dissolving. "What, things are just starting to look up for you, and you're already trying to shake me loose? Vivienne, you burn your bridges awful fast."
Vivienne met his predatory gaze without flinching. Her thoughts were pragmatic and unashamed.
She meant every word.
