"How is it not important?" She frowned, a little anxious. It was a major state-sponsored government summit. Top-tier corporations were lining up around the block just to get a seat at the table. It dictated the company's entire policy alignment for the coming year. How could that not be important?
Willow tried to talk him out of it. "You really should go. I can handle my mom on my own. If you skip this, I'm worried it's going to hurt your work down the line."
Silas looked at her earnest expression, a faint smile touching his eyes. She was worried about him.
He leaned in slowly, pressing his warm fingers gently against her smooth forehead in a comforting touch. "It's just a meeting. If I cancel it, I cancel it. Don't worry about it."
He stood up and began clearing the plates. "Get some rest and focus on picking your mom up this weekend. I've got everything handled. You don't need to stress."
Willow wanted to argue, but Silas wasn't having it.
To anyone else, that high-profile summit might be crucial to shaping the landscape of public-private partnerships. But to Silas Thorne, all the business, fame, and career prospects in the world couldn't compare to a fraction of Willow.
Forget a government summit. Even if the President himself were hosting a private roundtable, if it conflicted with Willow, Silas would cancel without batting an eye.
The weekend arrived quickly, and Willow and Silas went to pick Martha up from the hospital together.
Because Willow had specifically asked her not to, Martha didn't pry into the status of their relationship. But as she watched the two of them walk in side-by-side, she couldn't hide the smile in her eyes.
