Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 568

Love?

When Julian Sinclair heard that word, his first reaction was to scoff. His lips curled into an icy, cynical smile. There was not a shred of warmth in his eyes, only a freezing mockery and obsessive control.

How could he possibly love Willow Horgan?

What gave her the right to make him feel anything at all?

When they were younger, she had been entirely devoted to him. She carefully hid her secret crush, though the adoration in her eyes was as plain as it was pathetic. She had chased him across half the city, yet he had turned a blind eye, treating her with utter indifference without a single flicker of emotion. Back then, he didn't love her.

Later, she joined the Sinclair family, asking for neither title nor money. Even when she was left completely out in the cold, she remained obedient and quiet. Still, he felt nothing. He didn't love her then, either.

Then she was sent away to Seattle, far from home, shouldering all the pressure alone. She hadn't uttered a single complaint from start to finish, venturing off to a distant city by herself to stabilize the overseas projects and hold the fort for the Sinclair family. And still, he didn't love her.

So how could he possibly love her now?

Moreover, Vivienne Sinclair was the one who had given him a child and continued the family lineage. That was what he valued most. And that was something Willow could never do.

Therefore, Julian convinced himself that the turbulent emotions churning inside him were neither love nor guilt. It was an ingrained need for control, the sting of challenged arrogance, and an absolute inability to accept things slipping from his grasp.

To him, Willow had always been something he held in the palm of his hand. She was the docile, obedient toy who would always stay right where he left her, no matter how much he neglected or ignored her. She was never supposed to escape his reach.

But now, this toy he had discarded for years actually wanted to turn and run. What fueled his growing, intolerable rage was the fact that someone else was stepping in to claim her—and that someone was Silas Thorne.

That powerful, impossibly arrogant man who looked down on all of Seattle from his high horse had actually given all his favoritism and tenderness to the Willow he didn't want.
