He said he loved her?
Willow froze completely, her eyelashes fluttering wildly like a startled butterfly. Even her breathing hitched.
All the surrounding noise faded away, leaving only his burning, direct confession echoing in her ears.
He loved her?
Had she heard him right?
It wasn't that she hadn't suspected anything. Through all their time together, she had noticed the way he looked at her, the way he constantly protected her and made her his exception. This man, who stood high above everyone else and never spared a second glance for anyone, treated her differently.
But she had never dared to imagine he would just drop the word "love" so easily, without any preamble.
It was too sudden, too intense, and it threw Willow's thoughts into complete chaos.
Silas looked down at her stunned, bewildered expression and found it incredibly endearing. His large hand gently gripped her waist, pulling her a fraction closer.
He lowered his head, his nose brushing affectionately against hers. His voice was gentle but unmistakably resolute. "Yes, you heard me right. Willow, I love you."
Willow finally snapped out of her daze, but another thought quickly surfaced. "Didn't you say before... that there was someone you were deeply in love with?"
She wasn't asking to interrogate him. After all, she was still entangled in a failed marriage and a messy past; she had no right to judge his history.
But she remembered the deep, restrained longing in his eyes when he had mentioned that person. He had looked so genuinely happy. She just wanted to understand.
Silas's lips curved into a very faint, incredibly tender smile. He didn't hide a thing. "Yes. I do have someone I've kept in my heart for years, someone I've loved for a very long time."
