Hearing those words, Willow's heart seized. Absolute shock crashed through her veins, leaving her fingertips numb.
That night three years ago had always been a dizzying, fragmented blur. But in her half-conscious state, she vividly remembered the man's deep, smooth Seattle accent and the crisp, masculine scent of cedarwood. Looking back now, the breadcrumbs had been there all along.
After spinning in circles for so long, it turned out that the person who had illuminated her darkest days, the man who had formed that initial, profound connection with her, had been Silas Thorne from the very beginning.
Tears sprang to her eyes. She pressed herself tightly against his solid chest, listening to the heavy, reassuring thud of his heartbeat. A complex mix of grievances for the past and overpowering joy struck her heart in rhythmic waves.
"Why didn't you tell me sooner?" she cried softly. "If you had just been honest from the start, I would have known. We wouldn't have had to take such a painful detour."
Silas tightened his arms around her, caging her securely in his embrace. He subconsciously shifted his long legs, gently rocking her—his own unique, incredibly soothing way of comforting her.
"It's my fault. It's all on me," he murmured apologetically, his breath warming her hair. "I overthought everything. I hesitated too much, overcomplicated the situation, and allowed you to suffer."
Willow stayed buried in his chest, too emotional to speak.
Silas carefully explained his reasoning. "In the beginning, when I found out who you were, I genuinely believed you were happy with Julian. I didn't dare barge into your life and wreck your peace. Later, when you left the Sinclair Group and joined Merit Biotech, I became your boss. I was terrified you only saw me as an authoritative figure, that you didn't harbor any romantic feelings for me at all. I was too afraid to cross the line, and I never wanted to pressure you. It wasn't until recently that I finally woke up. I'm done holding back. I'm done retreating. I don't care about the rules anymore. I just want to stand proudly by your side and make you mine."
A lump formed in Willow's throat. Her muffled voice drifted up from his shirt. "So... when did you start having feelings for me?"
