It wasn't until today that he fully realized every ounce of warmth from their past was a meticulously woven lie.
Julian was in agony, but more than that, he was furious. He hated his own blindness, hated that he had been so foolishly ignorant to let her deceive him for years.
"How long are you going to keep up this act?" he demanded, leaving her no room to hide. "Your time abroad was nothing but a string of reckless affairs, juggling multiple men at once. I assume that's when you got pregnant with Toby. And your so-called advanced studies and scientific research skills? All faked. Add that to your recent deception of Mr. Smith and impersonating WH. I have crystal-clear evidence for every single offense."
But even with all of that, Julian could have let it go. Her most unforgivable sin was manipulating his feelings and completely destroying any possibility he had with Willow.
"If you hadn't deliberately framed Willow all these years, constantly spreading malicious rumors about her, she and I would never have ended up like this!"
By the end, he was practically manic, his deep-seated hatred palpable in every word.
Vivienne stared at him and suddenly let out a cold laugh. So that was the real issue.
She finally realized that Julian was never going to forgive her this time.
Dropping all pretenses, she decided to just burn it all down. "So what if I did? Even if I admit to everything, do you really think you're innocent?"
"Don't sit there pretending to be some deeply devoted, righteous victim, Julian. You think you're a good person? The only reason I dared to do all those things was because you enabled me! If it weren't for you, would I have been able to walk away clean every time? Would I have ever dared to treat her like that?"
Her eyes were bloodshot, boiling with spite. Since he wasn't going to give her a way out, she would drag him down with her. "Remember this, Julian. The only reason Willow's reputation was ruined, the reason she suffered so much injustice, the reason she ended up completely broken—was because of your indulgence! Every single bit of it is your fault!"
The revelation struck him like a physical blow.
Her words were like a thunderbolt that completely jolted Julian awake, tearing away his hypocritical armor.
He hadn't wanted to admit it at first, instinctively wanting to argue and deflect the blame, but now, he was cornered with nowhere left to hide.
It was him.
From beginning to end, it had been him.
