Three Years Forgotten, Why Go Crazy When I Say Goodbye? novel Chapter 616

On the drive to Merit Biotech, Silas Thorne’s pulse hummed with an unfamiliar thrill. He couldn't shake Willow’s earlier words from his mind. She had said they would get married soon. Unable to contain himself, he glanced over at her. "Did you mean what you said back there?"

Willow had spoken so much that morning, her mind was a blur. "Which part?" she asked, turning to him.

Silas’s Adam’s apple bobbed. The man who ruthlessly controlled a vast corporate empire, who never second-guessed a single decision, suddenly looked like a nervous teenager. His long fingers gently wrapped around her slender wrist, his thumb brushing against the dazzling diamond ring he had placed there. "When you said we were getting married soon," he said, his voice thick with a mix of gravity and apprehension.

He felt entirely out of his depth. Even though she had accepted his proposal, the papers weren't signed yet. With Julian Sinclair still lurking like a dark shadow, Silas couldn't fully let his guard down.

Seeing the raw vulnerability in his dark eyes, Willow’s heart melted. She let out a soft laugh. "Of course I meant it. I accepted your ring and your proposal. Do you really think I'd back out now?"

"Or are you the one getting cold feet?" she added, tilting her head with a teasing glint in her eyes.

The moment the words left her mouth, Silas’s entire body tensed. His arm snaked around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest. The composed, icy billionaire vanished, replaced by a man utterly undone by the thought of losing her. "Never," he said fiercely, his dark eyes wide with panic. "I've never had that thought. I want to marry you. The sooner, the better."

Seeing his desperate sincerity, a warm wave of affection washed over Willow. She smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners, and reached up to smooth the deep crease between his brows. "I was just teasing you, Silas. Relax."

He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his jaw nuzzling the soft skin there. His voice was muffled, laced with a stubborn, almost needy dependency. "Don't joke about that. You know I can't handle even a second of doubt when it comes to you."

He lifted his head, his hands cradling her face, and captured her lips in a deep, lingering kiss.

The kiss grew heavy, filling the luxurious car with a thick, intoxicating heat. Eventually, Silas pulled back, though he kept his forehead rested against hers. His breathing was ragged. "Are you still sore?" he murmured, his gaze dropping. "Are you in pain?"

He had lost control last night, entirely consumed by his hunger for her.

Willow’s ears burned red, a flush spreading rapidly across her cheeks. She looked away, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I'm fine. It doesn't hurt anymore."

Silas wasn't convinced. His eyes drifted down to her slightly reddened knees. She had been on them for far too long last night.

He reached down, intending to lift the hem of her skirt. "Let me see."

"Don't," Willow gasped, swatting his hand away, her face practically on fire. "Seriously, it's fine. You don't need to look. I'm not in pain."
