This delusion had become her sole obsession.
But the phone service had been cut off ages ago. She couldn't make a single call. Her endless dialing and pleading were nothing more than a pathetic, one-woman show playing to an empty audience.
At that moment, she caught sight of Willow on the television screen. Her cloudy, vacant eyes suddenly lit up as if she had grabbed hold of a final lifeline. Susannah jolted up from the couch, rushing over to Julian in a manic frenzy. "Julian, look! It's Willow! I know her, she's my daughter-in-law! The Sinclair family's daughter-in-law! She's so kind, she'll definitely help us!"
She aggressively yanked at Julian's sleeve, shaking him violently, her eyes burning with a deranged hope. "Hurry, call her! Talk to her nicely and beg her to save us. If she just says the word, we're saved!"
Julian didn't move an inch. She kept pushing him like a lunatic. "Contact her! She used to love you so much, she definitely still has feelings for you!"
Already drowning in agony and suffocating resentment, Julian's sanity snapped at her hysterical screeching. The hatred, regret, and bitterness he had suppressed for days finally erupted.
He jerked his head up, his eyes filled with absolute ice and disgust, and shoved Susannah backward. Losing her balance, she stumbled back several steps, slamming hard into the concrete wall before collapsing onto the floor.
Julian glared at her, his voice hoarse and venomous, every word dripping with bone-chilling hatred. "Contact her? What right do I have to contact her? Now you want to beg her for help? If you hadn't schemed and brainwashed me into being with Vivienne, if you hadn't torn us apart, do you think I'd be in this living hell right now?"
His chest heaved wildly as his buried rage poured out. Once the floodgates opened, there was no going back. "This is all because of you! You single-handedly destroyed my entire life, forcing me into that twisted mess with Vivienne until it broke me. And in the end? The Sinclair family is gone, our power is gone, everything is gone! I spent years raising another man's bastard child for nothing! Are you happy now? Is this what you wanted?"
His brutal words drove like a stake through Susannah's heart. A sudden, violent migraine pierced her skull, feeling as though thousands of needles were stabbing her brain.
Her clouded eyes darted around erratically, and her crazy mumbling came to an abrupt halt. Her chaotic thoughts seemed to violently snap back to a moment of tragic clarity.
All her past manipulations, threats, snobbery, and paranoia flashed before her eyes.
She was wrong.
