When the meal was almost over.
Clara retrieved her phone from Dominic, making an excuse to make a call so she could sneak off to pay the bill.
"Hello, I'd like to settle the bill for Private Room 3."
The receptionist smiled, "Certainly, please wait a moment while I check."
"Okay."
The receptionist tapped away at the computer and smiled, "The bill for Room 3 has already been settled."
"Ah?"
"Mr. Jarrett has a card here. Every time he dines, the cost is deducted directly from his card, no need to settle up. Besides, how could Mr. Jarrett let a lady pay?"
Clara understood, "Alright."
She returned to the private room.
By now, the kids had finished eating and were outside getting self-serve ice cream.
Dominic was the only one in the room.
He was standing with his back to her, on the phone by the floor-to-ceiling window. His suit jacket was draped over the back of a chair, and he wore only a black dress shirt that hugged his robust physique. The muscles on his back were tense and powerful, exuding an indescribable allure.
Clara took one look and quickly averted her eyes; she had never even looked at Julian like that...
Hearing her return, Dominic hung up the phone and turned to face her, his tall figure silhouetted against the light. "What's wrong?"
Clara finally looked at him again, biting her lip. "You paid the bill. We agreed I would pay..."
Dominic stood with one hand in his pocket, clutching that crumpled tissue. He chuckled and said, "You can treat next time, it's the same."
There's a next time?
Clara's heart tightened. Honestly speaking, she didn't want to have too much involvement with Dominic.
First, she was leaving soon.
Second, deep down, she didn't want to deal with people from the upper crust anymore.
But right now, she couldn't well refuse.
"...Alright, then I'll treat next time. Mr. Jarrett, you can't jump in to pay the bill again then."
Dominic put on his jacket and adjusted his tie, his gaze constantly resting on her.
"Alright, no problem."
At that moment, the two kids returned with their ice creams, even bringing a strawberry-flavored one for Clara.
"Here you go, Clara."
"Auntie, we got you a strawberry-flavored one!"
Clara's heart was touched, and she affectionately pinched both boys' cheeks. "Thank you."
After saying that, she glanced at Dominic and was surprised to find that the man seemed to be looking at them with a smile.
Must be an illusion.
She said, "Mr. Jarrett, we'll be leaving then. See you next time."
