Toby Marsh glanced at the two of them through the rearview mirror. For a fleeting moment, he was truly in a daze, almost believing Clara was Sarah West and that she and the boss were happily together.
But reality was reality.
In fact, these past few days, he could tell the boss had been distressed over Clara. Two consecutive DNA tests had failed; anyone would feel disappointed.
He could also tell the boss was genuinely preparing to draw a clear line with Clara.
Like tonight, for instance.
After leaving Phoebe Shaw's estate, the boss had been in a bad mood, undoubtedly because of Clara.
So, when Toby mentioned the public backlash against Clara online, the boss had flatly stated it had nothing to do with him.
But when Toby added that Clara had been taken away by the police...
Even though the boss verbally dismissed it with coldness, he eventually ordered Toby to drive to the police station.
Sigh.
Toby truly couldn't fathom the boss's thoughts. But one thing he knew for sure: if Clara really, truly wasn't Sarah West, the boss would eventually walk away and leave her be.
Snapping back to reality, he asked Clara, "Ms. Vance, where do you live?"
Clara gave him an address, her small apartment.
Then she turned her head to look at the man sitting beside her. He was leaning against the seat back with his eyes closed, rubbing his temples. His profile was sharp and handsome; even in a lazy, relaxed posture, he exuded an extraordinary noble charm...
Inexplicably, that indescribable sense of familiarity crept into her heart once again...
Clara pressed her lips together, quickly suppressed the feeling, and gathered her thoughts, carefully asking, "Mr. Jarrett, how did you know I was at the station, and why did you step in to help me..."
Dominic's hand paused at his temple. After a moment, he said lightly, "If you are involved in a scandal, our project will be affected."
Clara understood.
She hadn't dared to hope for anything more anyway. After all, connections between people were built on mutual interests.
But she was still very grateful. "Thank you for helping me, Mr. Jarrett. Rest assured, the rumors online are all false. I have no scandal. I was the one who revised that design, and the truth will come out tomorrow."
Dominic paused and suddenly lifted his eyelids to look at her, a faint glimmer in his dark eyes. "You said you know how to design?"
Clara didn't understand why he suddenly brought this up, but she didn't hide it, looking down and saying softly, "A little."
"Anyway, thank you again, Mr. Jarrett. I'll definitely do a good job on your project. Aside from that, if you ever need anything in the future, you can come to me. As long as it's within my power, I will do my utmost."
She spoke with absolute sincerity.
