Mindful of Clara's presence, Dominic chose not to escalate the confrontation. He offered a polite, clipped smile. "A coincidence indeed."
Julian narrowed his eyes. After a tense beat, he chuckled. He stepped right up to Clara, his large hand sliding possessively around her slender waist as he addressed Dominic.
"We're a bit pressed for time today, so Clara and I won't invite you in to sit down. But I'll definitely take you out for drinks when I have the chance. We'll be going now."
Julian then looked down at Clara, his expression transforming into one of sickening devotion. "Sorry I'm late, sweetheart. I had an emergency at the office. I'll make it up to you tonight."
Clara had never seen him act this affectionate in public, let alone as a territorial display in front of another man. It made her skin crawl.
She knew Julian was playing some twisted game.
"Julian..." she warned in a low murmur.
He responded by pinching her waist lightly, leaning in close like a man completely consumed by love.
"Don't be mad. I'm sorry about last night. Forgive me?"
Clara's face flushed with a mix of humiliation and anger, and she bit her lip hard. But she didn't dare fight back. She had no idea how far Julian was willing to take this charade.
Julian watched her submission, his eyes darkening with satisfaction.
Dominic stood perfectly still, watching the display. His jaw was locked tight, and a violent storm raged behind his dark eyes.
He remained silent.
Julian struck first. Tearing his gaze away from Clara's flushed face, he looked back at Dominic. The loving facade vanished, replaced by a cold, victorious smirk. "Clara and I have to go. Have a good day, Mr. Jarrett."
Without waiting for a response, he hauled Clara down the hall.
Behind them.
Dominic's heavy gaze tracked their every step. The sunlight highlighted the sharp, unforgiving angles of his face, casting deep shadows that hid his true thoughts.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, breaking the silence.
Dominic tore his eyes away and answered, his voice a low rumble. "Yes."
"Mr. Jarrett, it's getting late. We need to collect the blood work and The DNA Discrepancy report. You also have an overseas conference call in an hour," Toby Marsh reminded him from the lobby.
Dominic's eyes darkened. He took one last look in the direction Clara had vanished before turning on his heel. "I'm on my way."
...
Meanwhile.
Julian dragged Clara down the empty corridor.
