It was honestly pathetic. Back when she had loved him and begged him to visit her sister with her, he had flatly refused. Now that she couldn't care less, he was acting like a clingy stalker.
But they were already at the door.
She couldn't exactly throw a tantrum, so she let him follow.
She pushed the hospital door open.
Rosalie Vance was propped up in bed, working on some embroidery, while Zane Sutton was aggressively tapping away at a mobile game.
Hearing the door, they both looked up. Seeing Julian standing there shocked them, especially Zane.
He practically threw his phone down and scrambled to pour a glass of water, groveling instantly. "Mr. Lowell! Please, have a seat!"
Rosalie's greeting, by contrast, was freezing. She wasn't blind; over the last few days, she had clearly seen how Clara's feelings for Julian had died. "Julian."
Julian nodded curtly, taking in the subpar conditions of the room with obvious distaste.
He wasn't stupid. He could feel Rosalie's blatant hostility.
In the past, Rosalie had always been overly polite to him for Clara's sake.
Why the sudden attitude shift?
Julian's eyes darkened as he stepped further into the room.
"I've been tied up with work lately and couldn't visit," he said smoothly. "I didn't realize the conditions here were so inadequate. I apologize. I'll have my people arrange a transfer to Kingsley Private Hospital immediately. The facilities there are much better suited for recovery."
Clara shot him an empty look, silently placing her bag of fruit on the nightstand without a word.
Rosalie paused her stitching, rejecting the offer without looking up. "No thank you. I'm perfectly fine here."
Julian caught the unmistakable rejection in her tone.
But he wasn't the type to beg anyone. "Suit yourself," he replied coolly. "Call me if you need anything."
"Sure," Rosalie offered a tight, fake smile.
The ensuing small talk was agonizingly brief.
Clara didn't say a single word the entire time, her face completely blank.
In his world, nothing mattered more than cold, hard cash. Sacrificing Clara for a permanent connection to a billionaire like Julian was a fantastic investment.
Besides, he firmly believed Clara owed him for everything he had done.
Zane waved his hand dismissively in pure disgust.
"Enough! Shut up. I can't even talk to you right now!"
Rosalie panicked, knowing exactly how reckless he could be. "Zane, don't you dare do anything stupid! Do not go looking for Julian! Clara's situation is complicated. If you mess with those kinds of people, they will destroy us!"
"With your pathetic greed, you're destined to die broke anyway!"
Zane snorted, slamming the hospital room door behind him.
He wasn't an idiot. He saw that Julian was losing interest in Clara.
He needed a backup plan before his golden goose flew away.
He was going home to tear the place apart for The Silver Eternity Band. Once he found it, he would take it straight to Dominic Jarrett!
