Clara paused. Looking up, she was met with a familiar face.
Seraphina Shaw.
Compared to her usual self, she looked noticeably haggard over the past two days. When she frowned, fine lines appeared that not even her heavy makeup could hide.
Clara's expression turned glacial. Too lazy to engage, she completely ignored her, turning around to pull the coffee shop door open and walk inside.
Seraphina nearly choked on her rage. Her eyes went wide as she lunged forward, grabbing Clara's wrist and yanking her back.
"Clara, I'm talking to you. Are you deaf?"
Clara gasped in pain, nearly losing her footing. Her patience completely evaporated.
Frowning deeply, she violently shook off Seraphina's grip and rubbed her wrist, her gaze utterly devoid of warmth.
"If you're out of your mind, go see a doctor, Seraphina. Don't come being a psycho around me! Otherwise, don't blame me if things get ugly. I'm not Julian. I won't put up with your tantrums."
At the mention of Julian, Seraphina's chest seized.
The events at the club were still playing on a loop in her mind.
But in front of Clara?
There was no way she would ever show an ounce of weakness.
Her fingers curled into fists at her sides. She let out a cold sneer and said, "Clara, everyone in our circle who knows anything is saying you and Julian broke up, and that he's getting together with Beatrice Hamilton now that she's back in town... Acting like this now, you're not just playing hard to get, are you?"
Hearing this, Clara almost laughed out of pure anger. "Seraphina, do you really think this is cute? You're the only one shallow enough to waste your time on that filthy man! I've been completely disgusted with him for a long time."
Julian, having just stepped out of his car and walking over, caught that exact sentence...
Filthy man.
Completely disgusted.
Julian stopped in his tracks. Staring at the icy woman standing a short distance away, and then at Seraphina facing her, he narrowed his eyes viciously, his expression turning downright murderous...
Even Clara was slightly surprised at herself for using such harsh language, but she had been pushed to her absolute limit.
Seraphina was stunned too, but shock quickly gave way to burning humiliation.
Did Clara really think she had the right to mock her? She was obviously just lashing out because she couldn't have him, right?
"Clara, drop the act. If you don't love him, then stay the hell away from him! Stop clinging to him every single day!"
