Watching this unfold, the smile on Seraphina's face instantly stiffened...
Today was supposed to be her welcome party!
She bit her lip, and glanced at the man beside her.
Seeing his dark brows slightly furrowed, seemingly fixed in Clara's direction, her mood soured even further.
"Julian, what are you looking at?"
She tugged at his sleeve.
Julian slightly lowered his dark eyes, looked at her, and said casually, "Nothing. What's wrong?"
Liar. Seraphina felt stifled. She turned her head away in anger, refusing to look at him.
And Julian really didn't pay her any more mind. He just smiled faintly and ruffled her hair with his large hand.
Whether he hadn't noticed she was angry or was distracted by something else...
...
Clara chatted with her colleagues for a bit before excusing herself from the lively crowd, not wanting them to feel constrained by her presence.
She walked to the dessert section alone, picked up a chocolate pie and a drink, and settled into a seat by the floor-to-ceiling window.
She had originally wanted a strawberry cake, but unfortunately, they were all out.
As she was eating.
A dark shadow suddenly fell over her. A familiar, crisp scent invaded her senses as the man sat down across from her.
Julian.
Wasn't he keeping Seraphina company? Clara was slightly taken aback. She put down her small fork and looked up at him.
Under the warm light, the man's sharp features softened a little. She had to admit, he was incredibly handsome.
In the past, she had been utterly infatuated with him.
But now, her mind was filled only with the humiliating and sickening feelings he gave her whenever he was with Seraphina.
Clara lowered her eyes, tightly gripping the fork, and asked in a muffled voice, "Why are you here?"
Julian smiled, like a spring breeze. He placed a custom-made mini strawberry cake on the table and pushed it toward her.
His voice was incredibly gentle as he said, "I came to coax my girl..."
Clara's heart tightened. Looking at the exquisite little strawberry cake, she felt a momentary daze.
She loved strawberry-flavored desserts.
But in all these years, he had never bought her one.
