Julian didn't think much of the gesture, but seeing her bashful demeanor, he couldn't help but tease her, leaning in close. "If you're this shy now, what are we going to do when we get home?"
They were so close their breaths practically mingled, almost as if they were sharing a kiss. Clara's cheeks burned crimson. She playfully swatted his chest and scolded, "Julian! I want to go to my own place!"
Julian let out a rich, hearty laugh, pinching her flushed cheek before carrying her out the gates toward the Bentley parked on the street. "My home is your home."
That casual remark sent ripples cascading through Clara's heart. She still remembered what he had said that fateful day—
'This is my home.'
Now, he had entirely changed.
Clara looked up at him gently, her eyes growing misty. She held him tighter, her porcelain cheek resting perfectly against his broad shoulder, absolutely craving this closeness...
The two drove off into the evening.
Neither of them noticed the Maybach parked quietly in the distance.
Inside the car.
Dominic had witnessed every single intimate exchange between them. He sat entirely enveloped in the dim light, the faint glow highlighting the sharp, hard lines of his face, making him look utterly desolate.
He sat there in total silence, only moving once their car finally disappeared from view. He simply lowered his head, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and tried to light one. His long fingers trembled so violently he could barely hold the slender stick, and the lighter took several agonizing tries to catch...
The feeble flame flared, reflecting in his deeply bloodshot eyes.
Even an outsider like Toby couldn't bear to watch the heartbreak. He couldn't help but say, "Mr. Jarrett, Clara obviously misunderstood the situation. Do you want to explain it to her?"
Dominic took a long, punishing drag of his cigarette and said hoarsely after a heavy pause, "Explain what?"
Toby was rendered completely speechless.
Dominic continued, his voice void of all warmth. "From now on, treat this as if it never happened. You are explicitly forbidden to tell her."
Toby couldn't understand the logic and was about to ask why.
But Dominic ruthlessly shifted the topic. "How is the investigation into the events from three years ago going? How did she end up in Capital City from Somerset? Why are her parents gone? Did the Jarrett family have a hand in this?"
