Chapter 2
Nathan had no choice, but follow the order.
The second he stepped out of the car, he nearly screamed.
Because he saw my back. And he recognized it.
Just as he was about to call out my name, Leila wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Come on, babe. Let’s go.”
“There’s a hotel right around the corner. We didn’t finish our work~”
Nathan stumbled out of the car, face drained of all color, eyes locked on my back.
Leila followed his gaze. She paused, then laughed.
“Relax. That’s not your wife. If it was, she’d already be over here dragging you out.”
That seemed to calm him down.
Yeah. No way that’s her.”
s probably home by now. Sleeping.”
“Text her. Tell her you’re staying at a buddy’s place tonight.” Leila said casually
Rachel finished writing the ticket and handed it to Leila.
“Fine’s a fine. Whatever. At least I’ve got a hot guy to serve me tonight.”
I watched them walk away. Rachel let out a long sigh.
“Whose husband even is this guy? Shameless. Cheating on his wife like it’s nothing.”
Rachel had no idea.
The woman standing right next to her was that cheating bastard’s wife.
And I chose to swallow the humiliation.
Thank God she didn’t recognize Nathan.
Otherwise, tomorrow the entire NYPD would know I got cheated on.
When I got home, the first thing I saw was our wedding photo.
The one that used to make me happy.
I walked over, ripped it off the wall, and smashed it on the floor.
Glass shards cut into my palm, but I felt no pain.

My heart hurt far worse than my hand.
That’s when my dad called.
I picked up with bloody fingers, words failing me.
He didn’t sense anything wrong, but his usual commanding tone was softer than I’d ever heard it.
“Sweetheart. Do you really love that bastard that much?”
“I looked into his family. They’ve never approved of you!”
“They think being a traffic cop is embarrassing. They’re shallow. Money-hungry.”
“That’s why I didn’t want you to marry him. That’s why I asked you to hide who you really are.”
“It’s a test!”
“Someone like Dominic Kane from LA is the right match for you-”
“Dad.” I cut in, voice steady. “I’ll marry Dominic Kane.”
He went silent. I heard his breath catch.
“Give me three days. Once I take care of everything here, I’ll come home and agree the contract marriage.”
After I hung up, I got a text from Nathan.
A photo of him with friends.
Proof, supposedly, that he hadn’t lied.
Only now did I understand-he’d been lying the whole time.
Those photos? Staged. Planned ahead.
Every night he didn’t come home-he was with HER.
That’s why he couldn’t pass his driving test for two fucking years.
Not because he couldn’t.
Because he didn’t want to!
He was stalling, using it as an excuse to cheat.
I stood on the rooftop that night, smoked an entire pack of cigarettes.
The smoke burned my eyes, but I welcomed the sting.
I thought to myself-
Time to end this marriage.
