The moment the news dropped, the stock prices of the Forrester, Clayton, and Pearce corporations took a catastrophic nosedive.
When Nova's phone rang for the final time, it was Chloe who snatched it up.
Furious and red-eyed, Chloe lowered her voice into a lethal hiss, not caring who was on the other end. "If you call this number one more damn time, I will broadcast to the entire world that Nova and Tristan are legally married. I'll make sure everyone knows that Yvette is nothing but a homewrecking mistress and Tristan is a piece of trash! A pair of adulterous scumbags with an army of enablers trying to murder the legal wife! I swear to God, call this number again and see what happens!"
Her final words escalated into a sheer scream.
Right at that moment, Nova fluttered her eyes open.
In the dead silence of the hospital room, a clear, dignified voice echoed from the phone's speaker. "Hello, this is Nova's brother, Ian. If you can reach her, please tell her..."
The man on the other end seemed to be choking back a wave of emotion. It took him a moment to steady himself. "Tell her that Ian loves her. All I want is for her to be happy every single day. Tell her I'm officially dropping my appeal. She doesn't need to beg anyone on my behalf anymore! No one—absolutely no one—is worthy of making my precious princess get on her knees!"
Chloe froze in stunned silence.
Clutching the phone, she turned to look at the bed.
Nova lay there like a lifeless marionette with its strings cut, as tears silently cascaded down her pale cheeks.
Chloe couldn't hold it back anymore and burst into sobs. "Nova... Nova, please don't be sad..."
She gently pressed the phone into Nova's hand.
Swallowing her sobs, Nova forced her voice to sound steady. "Ian, what's going on? Why are you dropping the appeal? Just hold on a little longer, please. I swear I'll get you out of there. Once you're out, our family can finally be together again, okay?"
"Nova, please don't cry. Don't be sad. I'm dropping the appeal so you never have to bow your head to the Forrester family again. I saw the news today. I know you were shoved while you were pregnant. Dad called me too. He agrees with me. He told me to drop the appeal."
Ian's voice was warm, carrying a gentle smile as he coaxed her. "Nova, you're an incredible woman, stronger than most men. You deserve to live your own life. You shouldn't be chained down by my and Dad's karma. It's just prison, it's not a death sentence. When I get out, I'll come find you."
