Upstairs, Tristan gently set Nova down on the edge of the bed and turned to fetch the medical kit.

Nova wanted to tell him it wasn't necessary, but he had already walked away.

The sheer anxiety in his demeanor made it look as though he truly loved her.

The heavy, suffocating knot lodged in Nova's chest wouldn't go up and wouldn't go down. It was unbearable.

Outside the door, just as Tristan took the medical kit from the maid, a message popped up on his phone.

It was Justin, sending the dashcam footage from the car earlier today.

The past was the past, and arguing over right and wrong now was pointless.

Tristan hadn't planned on watching it, but he accidentally tapped the screen, and the video started playing.

It showed Nova getting into the car, and then, completely by accident, brushing against the screen to accept the call. From start to finish, she hadn't looked at him, totally unaware that he had already hung up.
