Nova couldn't help but let out a bitter, self-deprecating laugh.
Tristan, regretting this?
How was that even possible?
He loved Yvette to the point of obsession.
Even if she were genuinely pregnant, even if she gave birth to his child, he would never look back.
Just as she was about to speak, Nova received a video file. She almost deleted it without a second thought, but recognizing the familiar backdrop of the Forrester Estate, she clicked play. The voice of the grandfather she had always deeply respected echoed through the speaker—
'I heard about what happened today...'
The audio was crystal clear.
She listened to Abdul openly express his disgust for her 'low-class' background, Tristan implicitly greenlighting the brutal PR statement, and Felipa eagerly chiming in.
Finally, even Samuel heard the killing blow—
"If Yvette wants a child of your own together, we'll just send Nova's baby abroad..."
"A whole family of cold-blooded sociopaths!" Samuel snarled, snatching the phone to delete the video.
Fighting through a sudden spike of pain in her lower abdomen, Nova rasped, "Samuel, leave it. Save the video."
She was going to keep it. She would keep it for the rest of her life as a permanent reminder never to make the same idiotic mistake again.
The Forrester family's threshold was simply too high for someone like her to cross!
By now, the internet had completely exploded. People were rallying to dox Nova just to prove their loyalty to Yvette.
Samuel wasn't worried about the online mob, and he quickly reassured Nova.
"They won't be able to find you, don't worry. You've signed an official agreement with the state now. All your personal data is federally protected. By the way, after you miscarried... what did you do with the remains?"
Nova had felt a nagging sensation that she had forgotten something important.
His words struck her like lightning. She finally remembered.
The urn with the babies' ashes was still at Clearwater Manor!
"Samuel, I have to go back!"
Her heart raced wildly, and her right eyelid twitched with a sense of impending dread.
Her computer was smashed to pieces.
The crucial data files she had painstakingly compiled for the government project were shredded and scattered across the floor.
Even her personal debit cards had been snipped in half. As for her ID and passport... nothing was spared.
"Did you cross the wrong people?" a neighbor asked sympathetically.
Her face dangerously calm, Nova looked up at the micro-camera she had installed in the corner. Ten minutes later, footage in hand, she made a call—
"Samuel? You mentioned that my personal safety and assets are fully protected under state jurisdiction now, right? So if someone breaks into my home, destroys classified data, and ruins my personal property, what are the odds of them seeing jail time if I involve the authorities?"
Samuel's confident voice came through the speaker. "By the book. We won't accept a private settlement. A hundred percent. I'll personally coordinate with the state authorities on your behalf, and we'll loop in the false corporate damage claims against you while we're at it. Within a week, if Yasmin Forrester did this, she'll definitely end up behind bars. We'll make them pay you back with interest. The only rule is: no matter what they offer, do not agree to settle out of court."
Satisfied, Nova hung up. She hired a cleaning crew to clear out the apartment before immediately heading straight to Clearwater Manor.
However, the black urn that had been resting on her nightstand was gone. In its place sat a box of condoms.
Just as Nova turned to go downstairs to interrogate the staff about who had touched her things, the bathroom door clicked open.
Seeing the person who stepped out, Nova froze completely in her tracks.
