Tonight Her Love Ended novel Chapter 44

Just as Nova stood up to leave, a piece of paper drifted down onto her desk.

It was her leave application, bearing Tristan's signature. He had actually approved it?

"Ms. Clarke, that is not how one behaves in polite society."

A light, dismissive male voice floated down from above her.

She looked up.

It was the man from the office.

Aside from Kieran Pearce—a brilliant doctor who had once been nominated for a Nobel Prize in Medicine—Tristan's closest confidant was Chuck Clayton, the head of the powerful Clayton family.

In the past, desperately trying to integrate into Tristan's inner circle, Nova had gone out of her way to be accommodating to both Kieran and Chuck.

Kieran had responded with passive-aggressive sneers and blatant mockery, while Chuck had opted for total erasure. He completely ignored her existence.

Even when forced to acknowledge her, he addressed her strictly as "Ms. Clarke," never once recognizing her as Mrs. Forrester or his best friend's wife.

Yet, Nova had always remained relentlessly optimistic, trying to fit in.

Even now, Chuck assumed Nova would eagerly stand up, flash a bright smile, and greet him warmly, trying to curry favor for Tristan's sake. It would have made his upcoming lecture much easier to deliver.

Instead, Nova picked up the leave slip, acting as if he were entirely invisible, and began scanning it to fax over to HR for her final clock-out.

Chuck figured she must have overheard the conversation in the office and was feeling too humiliated to face him, using the busywork as a shield.

But after hearing from Kieran how she threw tantrums, faked miscarriages, and demanded divorces just to get Tristan's attention—and how her pathetic jealousy drove her to sabotage Yvette's chance to study under Professor Mathew at the banquet—he lost whatever shred of tolerance he had left.

Now it was clear. Nova wasn't just acting out as Kieran had said; she was weaponizing her pregnancy, dropping the act, and showing her true, rotten core.

Nova couldn't care less about Chuck or his opinions.

Samuel had texted saying he was waiting downstairs. She needed to go see her dad and had no time for this nonsense. She turned and walked away.

As she left, a cold scoff echoed behind her.

Chuck was notoriously vindictive. Nova knew she had just deeply offended him, but she felt zero regret and zero fear. With Yvette in the picture, becoming a target was inevitable anyway.

Once in the car, Nova was just about to tell Samuel that her leave was approved when a text from Tristan popped up on her screen.
