Tristan made no move to defend Nova or intervene in the slightest. Even though she was currently 'pregnant' with his child.
Seeing his utter indifference gave Yvette a massive surge of security.
It made sense now. He hadn't forced Nova to quit earlier because he knew she was fundamentally incompetent. He knew she would get herself fired eventually.
Rather than dragging her out kicking and screaming—which would just send her running to Belinda to complain—it was much better to let her fail spectacularly. Once she got herself fired, she would finally realize she didn't belong in this world and stop making a fool of herself.
Some people couldn't be reasoned with; they had to learn the hard way.
Since Tristan wasn't leaving, Yvette happily stayed to watch the trainwreck.
Just in case Nova tried to spin a sob story for Belinda later, Yvette discreetly pulled out her phone and started recording. Catching Nova at her absolute worst was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
It would be the perfect evidence to finally show the old woman exactly what kind of person Nova was.
In the center of the chaos, Nova's expression remained perfectly calm.
Her true position was strictly classified; there was zero chance of her being fired.
Samuel's face darkened as he stared at Chloe.
Chloe was usually straightforward, so throwing a tantrum of this magnitude felt suspiciously like someone had been feeding her poison.
But there was no time to investigate that now. Samuel addressed the entire floor to vouch for Nova.
"I poached Nova myself. She previously worked at Forrester Group and was eventually promoted to Executive Assistant to the CEO. While her prior role wasn't strictly in tech, her work ethic and capabilities are exceptional. She just needs time to prove herself to you all..."
Chloe sneered, dismissing the corporate speak entirely. To her, this was just blatant favoritism. She flashed back to the wildly unprofessional boundaries she had witnessed in the office yesterday.
"And another thing," Chloe sneered, "if you're a pregnant woman commuting to work on your first day, why didn't your husband drop you off? You arrive alone and leave alone every single day. If we didn't know you were just pretending to be independent, we'd think your husband despised you. Or maybe he does, and that's why you're sleeping with our boss?"
Every word felt like a knife.
"Chloe Zimmerman!" Samuel barked, his face thunderous.
The company did not need her this badly!
Chloe ignored him, locking her eyes on Nova. "You say you're married? Prove it. Show me your marriage license right now, and I'll drop it. And don't give me that 'I didn't bring it' excuse. Log into the National Marriage Registry right now. One search will prove everything!"
Nova's face drained of color.
If she proved her marriage, everyone would see that her husband was Tristan Forrester. Her marriage was hanging by a thread. It could end tomorrow for all she knew.
