He understood exactly what Tristan was thinking and feared the Pratt family and the Levy family might turn against each other.
He hoped this marriage would make Tristan pull back before things went too far.
Nancy’s family had worked under Jerod for decades.
Nancy’s father was straightforward and trustworthy. He never sucked up to his bosses or bullied those under him.
Jerod had full confidence in his character.
Nancy was just in her early twenties, fresh out of college, and still innocent and naive.
She was pretty, had a great figure, and a solid education. She was definitely presentable.
Some might say she was easygoing, but to be honest, she wasn’t exactly someone with strong opinions.
She was the perfect candidate to be a wealthy family’s daughter–in–law.
Besides, the two of them had already slept together.
If things were left unresolved, people would definitely start gossiping about Tristan’s behavior.
If he didn’t give a clear answer, when he got old, Tristan might not be able to command the respect of those old loyalists.
So. Jerod forced Tristan to date Nancy, and even went so far as to micromanage every little thing, right down to their dates.
Tristan had already heard that his father was digging into the land in the new district.
He was worried his father might step in and mess up his plans.
Lately, he’d been keeping his head down and trying not to draw any attention.
He kept giving in to his father’s unreasonable demands, no matter how much he hated it.
Tristan thought that if he just played along and kept his dad happy, he could smooth things over and get his old man off his back.
Once the whole land situation was figured out, he’d sort things out with Nancy.
But how could a little fox ever hope to beat an old fox at his own game?
As soon as the workday kicked off, Jerod called him and the CEO’s office crew in for a meeting.

He announced that Tristan was stripped of his control over the Pratt Group’s finances.

To keep Tristan from playing any games, Jerod said he’d be handling the money himself from now on.
Every single payment from the Pratt Group would now need his signature.
It was as if a bomb had just exploded in the room.
Tristan almost shot to his feet.
“What gives you the right?” he demanded.
Jerod snorted coldly. “Because you spend all day neglecting your responsibilities and not focusing on proper business.”
“Where exactly am I neglecting my duties?” Tristan retorted, challenging him in front of everyone.
“Look at yourself,” his father said, clearly annoyed. “Those shell companies you’ve been setting up behind my back. Do you really think I’m blind?”
Tristan had nothing to say.
To get Unity Group to take the bait, he really had set up a few shell companies, planning to use them to bid on the land when the time came.
His plan was to pull the bidding funds and security deposits from the group, and once everything was done, he’d just shut those companies down.
The tension between father and son was so thick that everyone could practically see sparks flying.
The director of the CEO’s office gave the others a subtle signal, and everyone quietly made their exit, leaving the two of them alone.
Tristan realized being forceful was getting him nowhere.
He eased up and said, “How about you let me handle things until next month? Just give me a little more time, okay?”
“You think I’ll just let you do whatever you please?” Jerod snorted.
Tristan could barely hold back his temper.
He clenched his teeth, holding back his anger, and tried to talk things over with the old man, keeping his voice as polite as he could manage.
“Dad, just let me handle this. Once it’s settled, I’ll get engaged to Nancy.” Tristan said, trying to sound as genuine as he could.
If it helps Brianna, I’d do anything. Even sell myself if I have to, Tristan thought, determination flashing in his eyes.

“You’re marrying Nancy, and that’s final. No ifs, no buts!” Jerod declared, his voice brooking no argument.
“You’re such a stubborn old fossil!” Tristan snapped.
Realizing there was no way to talk his father down, Tristan stood up, furious.
“No matter how hard you push, it won’t work! Even if you beat me to death, I won’t marry Nancy!” he shouted.
With that, he stormed out of the conference room, his anger practically radiating off him.
Back in his office, he ripped off his tie in irritation.
He slammed himself into his chair, his brows knitted tight with frustration.
He called his mom, desperate for some backup.
Zoe knew her husband’s temper all too well. She’d spent her whole life as a wealthy lady, never so much as touching housework. When it came to his decisions, her opinion simply didn’t count.
With nowhere else to turn, Tristan went to a few of his father’s inner circle, hoping they’d throw him a lifeline.
But anyone who so much as mentioned the issue got absolutely roasted by Jerod. He tore them to shreds every time.
All day long, Jerod wouldn’t budge an inch.
Tristan slumped in his chair, staring up at the ceiling in utter despair.
He ran the numbers in his head. the bidding funds and security deposits alone would add up to at least a couple of hundred billion.
With the Pratt Group’s money locked down, how the hell was he supposed to pull that off?
The auction was almost here, and even if he called in every favor he had, there was just no way he could scrape together that kind of cash on such short notice.
He was a mess–bloodshot eyes, yanking at his hair, looking half–crazed.
‘Is there really nothing I can do?‘ Tristan wondered, despair clawing at him.
Driven by desperation, Tristan found himself knocking on his father’s office door once more.
His father’s expression was dark and stormy, his eyes deep and serious as he fixed Tristan with a heavy stare.
“Dad, if you let me see the new district land deal through, I’ll agree to anything you ask,” Tristan said, his voice thick with desperation.
His words were tinged with pleading and a sense of utter hopelessness.
Jerod sat in silence, seeming to weigh something in his mind.

“I’ll give you 10 billion, but only if you marry Nancy and do it properly–no games, no excuses,” Jerod said, making it clear there was zero room for negotiation.
He had his own agenda.
It wasn’t about the money.
The real issue was that Brianna was Brandon’s wife, which made things extra sensitive.
If Tristan pulled this off by himself, it would be a slap in the face to the Levy family and risk falling out with Brandon for good.
But Jerod also worried that if he didn’t give an inch, Tristan would just dig his heels in even harder.
“60 billion, and I’ll marry her,” Tristan said, his voice unwavering.
Jerod fixed him with a hard stare, unable to say a word for what felt like ages.
After a good while, he finally let out a heavy sigh, full of resignation.
“Do you realize Brianna is Brandon’s wife? Don’t forget, you’re just a friend to her,” his father warned, his tone sharp and serious.
He was reminding Tristan to be careful and not cross any lines.
Tristan stayed silent.
‘If that bastard would just do his job as a husband, I wouldn’t have to be the one cleaning up this mess, Tristan thought, frustration simmering inside him.
As if that wasn’t enough, not only was Brandon ignoring his own wife, he’d even gotten her younger sister, Darcy, pregnant.
Whenever Tristan thought about Brianna possibly divorcing Brandon, he couldn’t help but second–guess himself.
‘Am I really doing the right thing?‘ Tristan wondered, his resolve faltering once more.
At this moment, Tristan was actually afraid his dad might really sign off on the 60 billion.
‘If I can just hang in there, I’ll have another shot down the line, Tristan thought, bracing himself for whatever
