When Kendra woke up in the morning and saw her mom, she was over the moon.

Brianna was helping Kendra get dressed, and as she looked at her daughter, she couldn’t help but smile from the heart. Kendra had gotten noticeably taller.

As they chatted, Brianna suddenly thought of Darcy.

‘Maybe this little traitor at home knows something, Brianna thought.

“Kendra, have you seen your Aunt Darcy around lately?” Brianna asked.

At the mention of her aunt, Kendra’s expression turned gloomy.

Brianna noticed the change in her daughter’s mood and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Kendra looked conflicted for a moment before she spoke.

“Aunt Darcy left the country,” she said.

Kendra wasn’t sure if she could open up to her mom, but she couldn’t talk to anyone else about it.

Her dad was always out early and back late, and Jane wouldn’t even let her mention Darcy.

“Oh, did she go on another tour?” Brianna asked, sounding casual.

“I don’t know,” Kendra replied, clearly upset. “She didn’t say.”

Lately, Darcy had been acting kind of off.

Before, whenever Kendra called or texted her, Darcy would reply right away.

But lately, she’d take a long time to respond.

Kendra figured Darcy was probably on tour, so she asked where she was, hoping she and her dad could go see her perform.

But Darcy seemed guarded, almost like she was avoiding Kendra. No matter what Kendra said. Darcy just wouldn’t tell her where she was.

“Where did she go?” Brianna pressed.

“I don’t know,” Kendra replied.

Kendra shot her mom a wary look.

‘Mom doesn’t like Aunt Darcy, so why is she suddenly asking about her? Kendra wondered.

As those thoughts ran through her mind, Kendra’s eyes clouded with hurt.

‘Does Aunt Darcy not trust me? Didn’t we always share so many secrets?‘ Kendra wondered.

“Even if she’s avoiding Mom, I’d still keep her secrets, no matter what,‘ she thought.

Brianna saw that Kendra’s face was full of worry.

She smiled and said, “Come on, let’s go wash up.”

“Mom,” Kendra pouted, “can you wash my face for me?”

“You’re a big girl now. Wash your own face. I need to get ready, too,” Brianna replied.

She forced a smile at her daughter and turned to leave the room.

After breakfast, Kendra kept pestering her dad to take her to school.

Brandon was busy getting ready to meet with his business partners for a site visit.

He glanced at his watch, then shot a quick, almost imperceptible look at Brianna.

Without missing a beat, he agreed.

Kendra was super excited. She grabbed her little backpack and ran out the door.

Brandon followed after her.

Brianna frowned. Dropping Kendra off at school before heading to the office would make her commute a bit out of the way.

She turned to James, the butler, and said, “James, could you give me a ride to the office?”

James nodded and went to grab the keys.

At the door, Kendra looked at her mom, practically bouncing with excitement.

Brandon got into the car too.

Brianna walked over, closed the car door, and waved goodbye to her daughter.

“Bye, Kendra. Be good for your teacher, okay?” she said.

Kendra’s smile faltered.

“Mom, aren’t you taking me to school?” she asked.

She hadn’t even asked if Mom wanted to come along.

Without thinking, she’d always assumed her mom would always be by her side.

Brandon shot Brianna a surprised look.

“Mom has things to do today, so I won’t be taking you,” Brianna said.

Brianna waved goodbye to her.

Kendra pouted, not happy at all.

“How are you getting there?” Brandon asked.

Her car was still at the office from yesterday.

“James is giving me a ride,” she replied.

“Alright,” Brandon said, his tone flat, but there was a flicker of disappointment in his eyes.

As the car pulled away, Brianna watched Brandon and Kendra vanish out of sight around the corner.

She really wasn’t making it up. Lately, she was being pulled in a million directions, and wished she could squeeze twice as much into every minute just to keep up.

Once she got to the office, she couldn’t wait to throw herself into work.

Her phone went off several times throughout the day.

Each time, it was a notification from the security system about someone at the door.

Whenever Brianna checked, it was always Jane, sneaking peeks at the entrance.

Each time, Brianna just checked the alert notification.

‘What is the Meyers family trying to pull?‘ she wondered.

Brianna ignored it and buried herself in her work.

After work, Clair gave Brianna a call.

He said headquarters had approved adding pieces from up–and–coming designers to the charity gala.

“Hey, Brianna, you should really think about which designs you want to push. The guest list for this gala is being set by HQ, and there’ll be loads of VIPs from the political and business world, both local and international. It’s the perfect chance for you to launch your couture line, Clair said.

Brianna couldn’t help but smile.

She kept saying yes without hesitation.

As a thank you, Brianna said she’d treat Clair to dinner.

Clair jumped at the chance and agreed right away.

Brianna headed over to the hotel.

She still had a few loose ends to tie up at work.

Right on cue, HQ sent over the jewelry designs for the auction.

Clair asked her to come upstairs and check them out.

She went upstairs to the conference room, took the tablet, and carefully examined the jewelry pieces one by

one.

Each design was so breathtaking that it made her eyes light up.

She wished she could treasure every single piece in her own collection.

When Clair and his colleague finally finished up their tasks, Brianna gave the tablet one last lingering look before heading downstairs with Clair.

As they were talking about the pieces and had just reached the lobby, someone called out to Brianna, stopping her in her tracks.

“Brianna?”

Brianna looked in the direction of the voice.

When she saw who it was, her brows furrowed instinctively.

‘Ugh, not them again, Brianna thought.

The one calling her was her aunt, Reese.

Reese walked over, her expression unreadable, almost sly as she sized Brianna up.

Clair had already met Reese back when they were in Valeentia.

“Hi, Reese, Clair greeted her.

Reese just let out a small snort.

“What are you two doing here?” Reese asked, her tone unreadable.

“Oh, our company’s still getting set up, so we’re just renting a conference room here for now.” Clair replied.

He glanced at Brianna, hoping he wasn’t making things awkward for her.
