After Darcy and her family were kicked out, Brianna finally had two days of peace.
Brianna had expected that family to come looking for trouble, but it seemed they were too tangled up in their own mess to get back at her.
She kept herself busy dealing with Darcy’s case, handing over all the evidence to the police and giving her statement. She didn’t show a shred of mercy.
That afternoon, just as she finished giving her statement and stepped out of the police station, her phone rang. It was Brandon.
“Hello?” Brianna answered.
“They called. Your dad’s not doing well. They want you to come see him,” Brandon said, his voice low. “Where are you? If you’re going to the hospital, I’ll go with you.”
Brianna stood on the street, gripping her phone, watching the cars go by. All she could hear was the sound of horns in her head.
“Hello? Are you there?” Brandon’s voice was tinged with worry.
“Yeah,” Brianna said, her thoughts slowly coming back into focus.
After a few seconds of silence, Brandon finally spoke. “Alright then. Where are you? There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
‘What could he want to discuss? Is it about Darcy?‘ Brianna wondered.
“I just finished giving my statement. What do you want to talk about?” Brianna asked.
“Let’s talk face to face. Send me your location and I’ll come pick you up.”
“It’s not far from your office. I’ll find somewhere nearby and send you the location,” Brianna said, genuinely curious about what Brandon wanted to discuss.
“Alright,” Brandon replied. He hung up and rushed out the door.
They met at a café. As Brianna sat across from Brandon, she realized that after seven or eight years together, he felt like a complete stranger to her.
She even caught herself wondering, ‘Am I dreaming? Did I really end up marrying this man?‘
“So, you said you wanted to talk?” Brianna asked.
Brandon felt a sudden, inexplicable panic as he saw how distant she was. Everything was slowly falling apart, and he couldn’t stand it.
“It’s about Darcy,” Brandon said, his voice tight with uncertainty. “What are you planning to do?”

Brianna gave a faint smile. ‘Of course, it’s about her, she thought, taking a slow sip of her coffee. “I want to hear your thoughts first.”
At this point, Brianna just wanted to know where Brandon really stood. It was her way of finally getting some answers after all those years together.
Brandon held onto his coffee cup, his brow tightly furrowed, restraining himself and barely keeping it together.
After a moment, his expression softened, as if he’d finally given in. “Just do whatever you want.”
“I’ve got the evidence that she kidnapped me, and I’ve already handed it over to the police. I also told them about what happened at the ski resort last year, but there’s not enough proof, and she’s denying everything. There’s not much we can do about that,” Brianna spoke calmly, keeping a close eye on Brandon’s expression.
His face showed pain, conflicted emotions, and barely restrained frustration.
“But her classmates she bullied, and colleagues she hurt on purpose, are all pointing fingers at her. Things aren’t looking good for her,” Brianna continued, her gaze locked on Brandon as she took another slow sip of her coffee.
Brandon stayed silent for a long moment before finally letting out a heavy sigh. “So, you’re planning to handle this through legal action?”
“Yeah. Assault, hiring someone for kidnapping, and distributing private photos without consent. With all those charges, my lawyer says the sentence could be anywhere between ten and fifteen years.”
Brandon looked into Brianna’s eyes, as if he’d finally let go of something heavy, and nodded. “There’s probably a murder on her hands too. The guy she hired to kidnap you ended up dead.”
Brianna’s eyes went wide. ‘How does he even know about that?‘
“How do you know?”
“I’ve been digging into that guy for a while. By the time I tracked him down, he’d already been killed,” Brandon replied, looking at Brianna with a calm, almost resigned expression.
“Honestly, I thought Benedict was behind it. He is my sister’s husband, after all. I pulled some strings, but the case never got anywhere. Turns out, it was Darcy all along,” Brandon said, shaking his head.
Brianna let out a sarcastic smile. ‘It’s not just Darcy. No matter who’s behind it all, I’m always the one nobody chooses.’
Her smile was heartbreakingly sad.
Brandon felt a stab of pain and a rush of anger he couldn’t place. He wished he could just punch himself.
He reached out, took her hand, and held it tightly, his eyes full of regret.
Brianna didn’t pull away. She just let him hold her hand. At this point, there was nothing she was afraid to face anymore.

“So, you can just let go of what happened to me that night?” Brianna asked. That night was the deepest wound in her heart.
Brandon’s eyes went wide, and then he was consumed by guilt.
“That never happened. I would never let anyone lay a finger on you,” he said, his voice fierce and protective.
“That night, when I found you in that abandoned factory, that guy was taking pictures of you while you were exposed,” Brandon’s voice trembling.
“I grabbed the camera and destroyed it on the spot. I thought I’d destroyed every last photo, but…”
Brianna saw tears glistening in his eyes. ‘Who would’ve thought even someone as cold and stoic as Brandon could shed a tear?‘
“I’m sorry. This is all my fault. It was my selfishness that caused you so much pain,” Brandon said, his voice full of sincerity.
For a moment, Brianna had no idea what to say.
“That night?” Brianna echoed, feeling a huge weight lift off her chest as she realized she hadn’t been assaulted.
“It was me,” Brandon said, pulling her hand to his lips and kissing it gently, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “You were drugged, and when it kicked in, you lost control. I couldn’t resist.”
Brianna quickly snatched her hand back, her face darkening in disbelief. ‘Seriously?‘
After a moment’s hesitation, Brianna asked quietly, “Are you okay with me turning the evidence over to the police?”
