Even after the funeral was over, those three never showed up again.

From Brandon and Tristan, Brianna learned that Reese had mortgaged all her real estate to fund Unity Group’s expansion.
Now, the Meyers family didn’t even have a place to call home.
Jane was almost eighty. After the funeral, with her consent, Brandon arranged for her to move into a nursing home.
After Whitney was buried, Brianna hurried to the police station to tell the officers about Darcy’s escape.
The police confirmed that Darcy really had fled, and she’d already slipped out of the country with Reese.
Brianna sucked in a sharp breath. ‘Who would’ve thought those two could pull something like this?‘
“What about Blanca?” Brianna asked the officer.
“She’s not a suspect, so we don’t know her whereabouts,” the officer replied.
Brianna nodded. After wrapping up the conversation, she walked out of the police station and returned to the office.
These days, Brianna had been bogged down by endless errands and barely had time for work.
She booted up her computer and logged into her work email.
Tevanni had sent over a contract. Her collab design had been approved and would be featured in their fall lineup.
Brianna grinned, feeling a wave of pride as she read the email. Along with the contract, Tevanni had also sent an invitation to their fall fashion show in Gurphis.
Brianna shot back an email, telling them she’d be thrilled to join the show.
With everything finally settled, she figured it was time to get out and clear her head. After a moment’s thought, she messaged Clair, asking if he’d like to join her in Gurphis.
Clair replied almost instantly, saying he was in. He’d been thinking about Brianna a lot lately, so the chance to go to Gurphis with her was something he couldn’t have asked for more.
With everything settled, Brianna dove back into her work.
At noon, Josefina called.
“Hello,” Brianna answered.
“Brianna, are you free tonight? Come over for dinner,” Josefina said.

Ever since that night at Cloud Restaurant, Josefina had noticed Brianna wasn’t the timid, indecisive girl she used to be. Deep down, she was truly glad for her.
Josefina had tried to get the whole family together a few times, but Brianna always said things weren’t settled yet., Now that Whitney’s funeral was over, she couldn’t wait to bring everyone together.
She was getting old and couldn’t handle much drama anymore. All she wanted was to see her family together and getting along.
Brianna understood Josefina’s concerns, and since she’d stirred up trouble at Cloud Restaurant using Josefina’s name last time, she knew she owed her an apology. So she agreed to go over and make it up to her.
Not wanting Josefina to worry, Brianna asked Brandon to swing by and pick her up after work. That afternoon, the two of them, with Kendra in tow, made their way to the main house.
When they walked in, Brianna greeted Josefina and Gabrielle, and noticed Justin was at the house too.
‘Looks like Margo will be here tonight as well,‘ Brianna thought.
Justin had just bought a new toy and didn’t know how to use it, so he kept pestering Brandon to teach him.
Brandon took the two kids out to the yard to play with the toys, while Brianna spent time with Gabrielle and Josefina, chatting and keeping them company.
Josefina knew the gist of what had happened and gave Brianna’s hand a reassuring pat.
“When someone passes, their light goes out for good. Let the past with your father go. Don’t carry that hate anymore. You’ve got a whole life ahead of you,” Josefina said gently.
“Okay,” Brianna murmured.
“As for that mother and daughter, the law will bring them to justice,” Josefina said. “Heaven never lets the wicked get away. No one escapes punishment forever.”
Brianna nodded.
Gabrielle looked at Brianna, noticing how worn out she seemed. She knew things hadn’t been easy for Brianna lately.
Gabrielle was aware of all those photos and everything that had gone down.
She wasn’t usually all that friendly toward Brianna, but seeing her deal with people like that, Gabrielle felt worry about her.
For once, Gabrielle spoke to her softly. “You’re still young. When you get to my age, you’ll see there’s nothing in life you can’t get past. As long as you’re alive, nothing’s ever really that big of a deal.”
Brianna was a bit surprised by Gabrielle’s sudden warmth. She nodded, and that was all she could manage in reply.
“I know I’m strict with you sometimes, but I’m your mother–in–law, kind of like a second mom to you. If you

ever feel lost or need to get something off your chest, you can talk to me anytime,” Gabrielle said.
Brianna felt a shiver run down her spine. ‘I never thought I’d live to see the day. First Brandon apologizes, and now Gabrielle’s actually being nice!‘
Gabrielle was genuinely trying to be kind, so Brianna managed a smile at her. “I know, Mom.”
Brianna had always been like this. If someone showed her kindness, she’d return it tenfold.
“Stay close to Brandon, and life will go smoothly for you,” Gabrielle advised.
Brianna just gave a quiet “mm” in reply.
As dinner time approached, Josefina urged Gabrielle to call Margo and ask where she was.
Brianna didn’t pay it much mind. It was typical for Margo to be there at times like this.
Ever since Brianna found out Margo had secretly helped Darcy, she’d lost all goodwill toward her. Now, she treated Margo like any other stranger, just going through the motions.
Dinner was ready, but Margo still hadn’t shown up.
The family was making small talk in the living room, waiting for Margo. But nobody sensed anything was
wrong.
It wasn’t until Margo appeared at the door, with a slightly stooped man following behind her.
Justin was the first to recognize him. “Dad!” he called out, running over to hug the man.
Margo walked into the living room and shot Brandon an angry look. “Benedict’s back.”
Brandon just stayed quiet.
Gabrielle glanced at Margo, then at Brandon, her face serious with a hint of authority. “Let’s eat!”
As the family gathered around the table, Brianna watched Benedict closely.
The last time she’d seen him was at the ski resort last year. In just over half a year, Benedict had aged and
grown weary.
His back was hunched, his hair much thinner, his face marked with new wrinkles, and his gaze seemed lost and uncertain.
