Kendra was practically bouncing off the walls with excitement about going to Gurphis with her mother. She packed her bags way ahead of time and waited eagerly for Brianna to pick her up.

Clair was looking forward to the trip as well.

That day, he called and mentioned, “The flight to Gurphis is over ten hours. I’m at the mall right now. Do you need meto grab anything for you?”

Brianna thought for a bit and replied, “I don’t really need anything. Oh, by the way, Kendra will be coming with me to Gurphis.”

‘Wasn’t this supposed to be just the two of us? Since when did it turn into a family trip?’ Clair thought, feeling a bit let down

He asked, “Why are we bringing her all of a sudden?”

“School hasn’t started yet. She’s been pestering me to let her come, and her dad said he’ll be in Gurphis in a few days to pick her up,” Brianna explained.

When Clair heard that Brandon would be in Gurphis too, he suddenly perked up.

“It’s nice to take her out for some fun while school’s out. Is there anything I should get for her? Just let me know,” Clair said.

“No need, James will handle all her stuff,” Brianna replied.

After hanging up, Clair was at the mall, Googling what essentials a seven-year-old girl would need for a trip.

He jotted down a list and spent the entire afternoon hunting everything down, finally checking off every item.

Before they knew it, the day of departure had arrived.

The flight was scheduled for the evening, so around noon, Brianna drove over to the Levy family home to pick up Kendra for the trip.

To her surprise, Brandon was home too.

“I’ll drive you guys,” he said, standing up and grabbing Kendra’s luggage.

“Mom, Dad said he’ll join us soon,” Kendra said excitedly, sharing the news with Brianna.

It had been ages since the whole family went on a trip together.

Every time Kendra heard her classmates talk about the trips they went on with their father, she felt a little jealous. She secretly hoped she could go on trips with both her parents too.

“Yeah,” Brianna replied, not wanting to let her daughter down.

On the way to the airport, Brandon asked, “Is it really okay to take her out on your own?”

Brianna rolled her eyes. ‘She’s only seven, and he’s only been more involved this past year. Wasn’t I the one doing everything before?’

“Clair will be there to help out,” Brianna replied with a hint of irritation.

“Clair’s going too?” Brandon frowned.

“Yeah.” Brianna nodded.

“Why is he everywhere I go?” Brandon grumbled, not even bothering to hide his annoyance.

Brianna just rolled her eyes.

“It’s just work. Why are you whining so much?” she shot back.

“Is it that Clair from last time?” Kendra asked, her little mind trying to recall who Clair was.

“Yeah,” Brianna smiled. “He’s a friend of mine, and just like me, he’s a jewelry designer.”

“Oh,” Kendra nodded, not really sure what to make of it. “Is he going to stay with us the whole time?”

“He’ll be with us while we’re in Gurphis,” Brianna replied.

“Where would you like to go for a vacation?” Brandon suddenly asked.

“Why are you asking?” Brianna replied, sounding a bit impatient.

“Just asking,” Brandon said. “If we get some time off, maybe we could take a trip together, just the three of us.”

He added, “It’s been so long since we took Kendra out as a family.”

“Yes! Yes! I want to go to the beach! Mom, can you and Dad take me to the seaside?” Kendra exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Yeah, we’ll see, Brianna replied, sounding indifferent.

This trip wasn’t just about work or taking it easy. She had her own agenda, and it’d be tricky with Brandon and Kendra tagging along.

Once they got through security at the airport, Clair was already waiting for them inside.

Ugh, why does he have to be here?’ Clair thought, feeling a flash of irritation.

Great, he’s here too, Brandon thought, equally annoyed.

Still, they managed to keep up appearances.

“Mr. Salazar,” Brandon said with a smile, reaching out his hand.

“Hello, Mr. Levy,” Clair greeted him with a smile, shaking his hand.

“Thanks for keeping an eye on the girls, Mr. Salazar. I’ll catch up with you guys in a few days,” Brandon said.

“You’re too polite, Mr. Levy, Honestly, with Brianna around, I’m not even sure who’s actually taking care of who, Clair replied with a grin.

Brandon’s smile lingered at the corners of his mouth as he crouched down in front of Kendra. “Be a good girl and listen to your mom, okay? And make sure you take care of her for me.”

Kendra, her backpack slung over her shoulders, was practically glowing with excitement. “Don’t worry, Dad! I’ll look after Mom, promise!”

Brandon reached out and gently touched his daughter’s face. “Remember, be on your best behavior. And don’t make things difficult for Clair, okay?”

Clair picked up on Brandon’s underlying message and smiled. “Mr. Levy, you’re being too polite. Brianna and I go way back. I’ll make sure Kendra’s in good hands.”

Brandon stood up and gave Brianna a dramatic, over-the-top hug.

She stiffened up, caught off guard as she awkwardly leaned into his arms. What’s gotten into him now?”

Brandon pampered her, ruffling her hair. “Take care of yourself. I’ll be there in a few days.”

He was acting like some lovestruck hero, showing off his affection for his wife.

“Yeah, no rush,” Brianna replied, feeling goosebumps from how fake he was being.

After saying goodbye to Brandon, Clair pushed their bags along and took Brianna and Kendra to the VIP lounge.

Clair made a real effort to please Kendra, asking her what she wanted to eat, and kept pulling out little toys to amuse her It didn’t take long for Kendra to get comfortable around him.

He was so gentle and attentive that Kendra liked him very much.

Once they got to Gurphis, the three of them checked into the same hotel. Clair specifically requested two suites side by side, making it easier to help out with Brianna and Kendra..

After settling in and relaxing for two days, it was finally time for Tevanni’s big new collection show.

Brianna worked her connections and managed to snag an invitation card for Kendra, so she brought her daughter along to the event.

The whole place was lit up, buzzing with stylish people everywhere,

Kendra was dressed up in a cute little gown, looking just like a princess with her mother holding her hand, her eyes darting around, curious about everything.

On stage, the models showed off glamorous outfits and the latest jewelry. Every piece was so unique that it totally grabbed everyone’s attention.

Brianna kept pointing out which pieces she had designed, and Kendra was all ears, the way she looked at her mother was pure adoration.

At the end of the event, Brianna took the stage as one of the designers to take a bow.

Watching her mother shine on the runway, Kendra clapped excitedly. ‘I never realized Mom was this incredible. She’s not inferior to Aunt Darcy at all.’

After the show, at the brand’s afterparty, Brianna was caught up chatting with everyone and didn’t notice Kendra indulging herself at the dessert table.

With nobody watching her, Kendra went wild and sampled every flavor of ice cream she could find.

On the way back to the hotel, Kendra started whining about feeling sick. As soon as they got to their room, she was vomiting

nonstop.

Brianna pressed her hand to Kendra’s forehead. She was burning up.

She rummaged through Kendra’s suitcase, only to find that Brandon had packed nothing but band-aids and some basic first- aid supplies. Not a single fever reducer or medicine for an upset stomach.

‘Seriously, how can he be so unreliable?’ Brianna complained inwardly.

Left with no other choice, Brianna ended up calling Clair.

“Clair, Kendra overate and now she’s running a fever. Could you grab some medicine for her from the pharmacy?” Brianna
