Chapter 14 Businers Alone
Chapter 14 Business Alone
While Tristan was in the bathroom, Brianna finally mustered the courage to ask the question she’d been avoiding. “That night at the bar.. how did I even get home?”
Afraid Patsy might read too much into it, she added quickly, “I totally blacked out, Zero memory.”
Patsy said, “Don’t look at me. I woke up at Tristan’s place.”
Brianna’s eyes went wide.
Patsy said, “It’s not what it sounds like. His driver showed up to get him, and since I was already hammered, they just took me along too.”
That was when it hit Patsy. “Hold on, why weren’t you with us, then?”
If I knew, I wouldn’t be asking, Brianna thought, rolling her eyes inwardly.
“You didn’t hook up with some random cute guy and go home with him, did you?” Patsy’s voice rose.
Tristan returned right at that moment and overheard. His expression darkened. “Who hooked up with a cute guy? You?”
“No!” Brianna stammered, her thoughts in a whirl.
“Hey, do you remember how she got out of the bar that night?” Patsy turned to him.
Tristan shook his head. “No idea.”
He racked his brain. All that came back was Brianna seeming down and pounding drinks nonstop. He’d pitched in by downing a ton himself… and then it all went blank.
In a hazy flash, an image popped into his mind, strobe lights pulsing, and Brandon’s face. Tristan shook it off. He thought, ‘Damn, why am I hallucinating that jerk?”
Brianna decided it must’ve been some stranger. Sketchy as hell, but at least it meant no lingering complications. The next day, with the deadline looming, she had no option but to bring Trina’s yellow diamond to the workshop.
It had been part of Trina’s wedding gift stash for her. At least incorporating it into her design would breathe new life into the gem.
She wrapped up in the afternoon and headed to the Harper family home.
The studio reno was nearly done, her pieces were finished, and now she could gear up to launch the company.
Business wasn’t her strong suit, investing, sales, the whole deal, so she hoped Mitch would step in and handle it.
She laid out the basics for him. Mitch seemed hesitant. “You should talk to Brandon about this. He’s the expert.”
Brianna couldn’t figure out his reluctance, but with the conversation already headed that way, she figured it was time to spill about the divorce. “I’m planning to divorce Brandon.”
Mitch looked shocked. Caroline, on the other hand, lit up like it was the best news ever. “Yes! Finally, it’s about damn time!”
“Mom!” Mitch scowled. “Brianna, divorce is serious business. You’ve got a daughter together. This isn’t something to take lightly.”
“I get it, Mitch. It’s not a snap decision. I’ve really weighed it out.”
As he noticed the sorrow in Brianna’s eyes, Mitch’s anger bubbled up. “Did he cheat on you?”
He thought, ‘How deep have things gone with Darcy? Have they crossed that line?‘
She wasn’t sure and didn’t want to complicate things further. “No.”
“Did he… lay a hand on you?”
If so, Mitch wouldn’t care if it was the Levy family or anyone else. He’d fight for her justice, even if it landed him back in jail. “No.” Brianna managed a faint smile. “It’s nothing like that, Mitch. It’s just… after all these years, he doesn’t love me. I can’t keep dragging this out.”
“Exactly,” Caroline agreed. “When you’re stuck with the wrong person, you gotta know when to walk away and minimize the damage.”
If only Trina had seen it that clearly, she might not have endured all that misery. Maybe she’d still be here, healthy and happy
Caroline’s eyes welled up at the memory.
Mitch seemed ready to argue more but held back in the end.

Caroline Said, “Have you two discussed it?”
brought it up. It won’t be quick. He’s got a lot on his plate to sort through. But I’ve already moved out to the place up
north.”
“Good, good. Once the dworce is done, the Harper family will look after you.”
A wave of warmth washed over Brianna. Her eyes prickled as she reated her head softly on Caroline’s shoulder.
Then something else came to mind, and she filled them in on Trina’s jewelry.
Caroline flew into a rage, tears streaming down her face as she cried out, “My poor daughter!”
It took ages to soothe her.
Tough and fiercely competitive in her younger days, Caroline wasted no time agreeing to the lawsuit. She wasn’t letting that family get off easy.
Mitch stewed in silent fury, his chest tight with resentment. He’d been clueless about how much his family had endured while he was locked up.
He said, “Brianna, it’s not that I won’t help. Home life’s still a tangle, and I just can’t commit right now. I bumped into Warner recently, and you know their situation. Why not chat with Patsy?”
His suggestion hit her like a lightbulb moment. She thought, ‘Duh, how has Patsy slipped my mind?‘
Bold, no–nonsense, and with solid experience managing a company, she’d be the ideal partner for the startup.
The jewelry design contest submission had to go to Zaivine. She could’ve shipped it, but she craved a change of scenery. Sure, she’d traveled a bunch these past few years, but it was always centered on Brandon and Kendra, never a real break. She said, “I’m thinking of popping over to Zaivine in a couple days to deliver my entry myself.”
“Go for it, and don’t rush back. Take a few extra days to unwind,” Caroline urged.
Brianna agreed and snagged a Friday flight.
With a day to kill, she caught up with Patsy and Tristan the next morning to pitch the company idea and invite Patsy aboard as a partner.
“Hey, your taste is seriously questionable. I’m the one you need as a partner.” Tristan ribbed her.
Patsy snarled and pounced, pinching him hard. “Say it again!“,
Tristan howled in agony, pleading for mercy. “No no no, you are the one.”
Patsy released him with an eye roll. “Damn straight.”
Brianna cracked up, then circled back to Patsy’s take on it.
Before she could answer, Tristan butted in again, “We’ll need to hash this out properly. I’ll organize a get–together soon and line up so
some investors.”
Brandon had been sending money like clockwork over the years. Beyond splurging on stuff for Brandon and Kendra, Brianna hadn’t touched it for day–to–day living.
Add in Trina’s inheritance, and she had plenty to kick off the business.
Still, Tristan insisted she only chip in a fraction, focus on designs, and claim 51% ownership. Investors could cover the rest. It’d build connections and pave the way for market expansion.
Capital wasn’t her wheelhouse, but Tristan laid it out convincingly, so she went along with it.
