Chapter 13 Snatch Her Thing
Hearing that Brianna wanted yellow gems, the merchant smiled and nodded. He happened to have quite a few in stock.
A tray was brought out, the black velvet backdrop making each yellow diamond sparkle brilliantly.
The merchant explained that this batch was from Ulmouth, featuring shades of deep fancy yellow and intense fancy yellow, vibrant in hue and exceptional in clarity.
One diamond was bar–shaped, ideal for forming the body of a butterfly.
Brianna was delighted and glanced up at Tristan, giving him a pointed look
Right then, murmurs erupted from behind her. “Mr. Levy, what brings you here?” Someone greeted Brandon warmly. Brianna stiffened.
“Just taking a look. How’s it going? Spot anything good?” Brandon’s voice carried over.
Brianna thought, ‘What is he doing here?‘ Brianna wavered, uncertain how to behave around him in front of everyone.
“And this is…?”
“My wife’s sister.”
Eyes around the room shifted toward Brianna.
The Meyers family wasn’t exactly high–profile, but they had a certain reputation.
In Klamdiff’s upper crust, even if folks didn’t know the Meyers family firsthand, they’d picked up bits and pieces after Brianna married into the Levy family.
Darcy had been shipped off abroad early on, so hardly anyone in Klamdiff’s elite crowd had laid eyes on her.
Word was she was gorgeous, with dance training from childhood and a string of ballet awards from overseas.
Now, as they saw her in person, she truly was stunning, delicate as a porcelain doll.
People’s eyes darted back and forth between the two sisters. Darcy was exquisite and radiant, effortlessly becoming the room’s focal point. Brianna was beautiful too, but she lacked that lively glow, like a fairy beside a hidden mountain stream, otherworldly and distant, tough to get close to.
Undaunted by the prying stares, Darcy nodded modestly and politely to those around her. This was the world she aimed to join.
Trailing their glances, she caught sight of Brianna. She thought, ‘Just perfect.’
When Brianna realized Brandon had shown up with Darcy, she dropped the act. She thought, ‘He is flaunting his little mistress in public. Why should I bother protecting his reputation?‘
She’d gotten what she came for, anyway. She murmured to Tristan, gearing up to negotiate the price.
“Brianna, fancy meeting you here!” Darcy beamed a enchanting smile, turning a few men’s heads.
With that, she drifted over gracefully, feigning closeness as she approached.
Brianna thought, ‘She just won’t go away.‘ She frowned deeply.
“Brianna, you’re after yellow diamonds too? You took mine, and I was just planning to get a replacement. You must really have a thing for them, huh?” Darcy’s tone was cloyingly sweet and guileless.
Brandon had already noticed Brianna, and Tristan standing right next to her.
He approached, irked by their proximity. It rubbed him the wrong way.
“Mr. Levy, with your packed schedule, you still carve out time to chaperone Darcy on a jewelry spree? How cultured!” Tristan taunted.
Brandon ignored the jab and nodded back. “Mr. Pratt.”
Darcy said, “It’s not what you think. Brianna took my yellow diamond necklace, so Brandon offered to buy me a new one. When I heard about the jewelers here today, I pleaded with him to come along.”
Brianna thought, ‘She really knows how to spin a story.‘ She let out an incredulous laugh. ‘The purest voice spouting the most brazen lies.‘
She still cared about her own dignity and didn’t want to spill family secrets in front of a crowd, so she stayed silent.
The group, who had been spread out browsing jewelry, now huddled nearby, chatting or pretending to inspect items while really perking up their ears for the juicy details.
Chapter 13 Snatch Her Thing
At Darcy’s words, several glances stole toward Brianna.
They thought. The dignified Mrs. Levy, swiping someone else’s necklace?”
“See anything that catches your eye?” Brandon asked Brianna nonchalantly, keeping up appearances in public like always. Noticing the bar–shaped diamond off to the side on the tray, Darcy piped up before Brianna could reply. “This yellow diamond is stunning. I’ll take it.”
Brianna thought, ‘Here we go again? She wasn’t having it. She ignored her entirely and turned to Brandon. “I’ve already chosen this one.”
“Oh? You like this one too, Brianna?” Darcy pouted, looking up at Brandon with misty eyes.
Brandon furrowed his brow. “Pick another. Let Darcy have this.”
“On what grounds?” Brianna’s voice rose.
She thought, ‘With all these gems to choose from, why zero in on the one I’ve picked?‘
Brandon’s expression soured. “Give it to her, and I’ll buy you every other stone here today.”
“I want this one! I chose it first!” Brianna’s face burned with fury as she locked eyes with him.
“Never mind, Brandon. I don’t want to drive a wedge between you and Brianna.” Darcy’s tone was subdued, but she came off as magnanimous. “Consider it a rain check. You can make it up to me later.”
With that, she turned to go, her pitiful demeanor enough to melt hearts.
Brandon caught her arm, holding her back. “We’ll take this one. Settle the bill!”
“Mr. Levy, that’s playing dirty.” Tristan lounged back with a smirk, watching him.
“You saw, we picked it first. Pack it up, and throw in that ruby from before.” Tristan fixed Brandon with a defiant stare.
“I’ll double the price.” Brandon held his gaze steadily.
“Three times the price!” Tristan shouted louder.
“Five times!”
“Ten times!” Tristan yelled even higher, his face flushed with barely contained fury. “Don’t act like the Levy family owns Klamdiff.”
Brandon smirked coldly. “Twenty times.”
The room erupted in a collective gasp. Everyone who’d been feigning disinterest dropped the pretense and gathered around to gawk at the unfolding family showdown.
Brandon gallivanting with Darcy was juicy enough, but now Tristan was defending Brianna right in her husband Brandon’s face.
Whispers buzzed through the crowd. Someone noted that Darcy’s side profile looked eerily like the actress from that Eighburgh scandal.
This drama was worth more than any jewel in the place.
Tristan, veins popping in his neck, was about to up the ante when Brianna tugged at his arm. “Forget it. Let’s just go.” She didn’t spare Brandon another look and marched straight out the door.
Tristan stared daggers at Brandon, fighting the urge to deck him. “Mr. Levy, if you’re over this marriage, just sign the damn divorce papers already.”
With that, Tristan spunto leave.
He’d barely moved when Brandon clamped a hand on his arm, exuding a menacing vibe. “Mr. Pratt, stay out of my marriage. It’s none of your business.”
Tristan’s blood boiled. He jerked his arm free and stepped up aggressively.
“Tristan!” Brianna called from the doorway.
He bit back his rage, gave Brandon a dismissive sneer, and hurried after her.
The yellow diamond wasn’t even that expensive to start with. This one, top–notch as it was, was just an uncut rough worth around 250 thousand dollars.
Now it’d been inflated to over 3 million dollars, and with the scandal involving these big shots, it’d probably become tomorrow’s hottest story.
Brandon radiated a chilling intensity, his presence alone commanding silence.
Chapter 13 Snatch Her Thing
“Brandon, you really didn’t have to go to all this trouble for me,” Darcy murmured self–deprecatingly, her voice pitched just right for the nearby eavesdroppers.
“It’s not your fault.” Brandon turned to the merchant. “She looked at a ruby earlier too, right?”
This unexpected jackpothad the merchant grinning inwardly.
At Brandon’s question, he hustled to retrieve the ruby personally, plus everything else Brianna had shown interest in. “Mr. Levy, these are the pieces she eyed.”
“Okay. Bag them all.” He swiped his card with effortless grace.
Darcy stuck close, posture perfect like the ballerina she was, elegant and poised as a swan.
Unfazed by the rubbernecking stares, she held her ground like she owned the place.
As they left the Evergreen Club, Darcy smiled coyly, accepting the gems from Brandon with wide–eyed glee, like a kid on Christmas.
She said, “Brandon, thank you! I caused that mix–up with Brianna. Let me take you to dinner tonight to apologize.”
He said, “No thanks. I’ve got business to handle. The driver will drop you off.”
“Okay, Brandon, you’re the greatest!” Darcy beamed sweetly, flipped her hair, and slid into Brandon’s Rolls–Royce.
A clever woman knew how to play hard to get. She’d nailed her objective today.
Meanwhile, Brianna put on a brave face, but the melancholy in her eyes was unmistakable.
Tristan saw it but kept quiet.
